Type R, X, or W7

And im sure he is on a budget. It seems that he lined out two Type R's to one W7 and 1 Type X. All three options tend to be around the same ball park figure, except the W7, which is somewhat higher.

You running ported or sealed?

Budget on the amp?

Assuming install is nice and you can give the R enough power to reach it's full output capability, I say two ported Type R 12's will outdo a single W7 12 all day long.

However

The W7 in my honest opinion is a better built driver and will sound significantly better, unless you have some great box building skills/setup skills going for ya.

agree 100%. well put.

Well I was gonna upgrade to a 1100d memphis amp to a ported box whichever subs I go with. I may keep the 500d and combine amps. Im going for more spl than sq. Thanks for all your imput so far.

i havent had my type R's for a while now...couple months or so.

they were in a TCAB box...ran off a 2500d @ .5 ohms

yes...they were loud...SQ wasnt that great. and they just didnt have a smooth overall sound.they sometimes struggled with the lows

now this could be due to the box, but i have heard them in different setups and as a consensus i feel that the W7 is just a superior woofer.

now i have my single W7, its extremely smooth and drops extremely low. its incredibly accurate, and has excellent upperend extension.

but...since you said you want a SPL setup more than an SQ setup, the 2 - 12'' Type R's will be right up your alley.

mine were @ a 147.4 off 500 a piece...get enough power and the right box and they go wild.

I found that my R's have exceptional SQ. The rollover with a wide band of notes is such a smooth transition, I dont see any flaws in it IMO. Gets loud and low. Doesnt have a problem with the lows ever.. maybe you are just pushing those R's too hard.. I mean, idk, .5 ohm on an orion... I could see that you are just pushing them and getting some distortion, especialy in the lows.
