Type R tweeters NEW vs OLD???

ive ran type R silk dome 05/06 model componet tweeters for the longest and one finally quit on me. Im running a/an active set up and im thinking about replacing them with a set of the 07 type R tweeter that a friend has for free. But ive heard alot of neggative comments about the new tweeters not being as clean and clear as the old ones and that they use a different material tweeter, which some say is a cheaper material. Does anyone have feed back on this issue???

I have 1 type R tweeter if you would like it. I had a set of the 5 1/4" components and 2 sets of the 6 1/2" components. I only used the tweets that came with the 5 1/4" and just used the 6 1/2" for for midbass. I sold a set and one set went with the 5 1/4 when I got rid of them. I had one that was damaged and they send me a type x tweet instead of the type r so I have the other type r just sitting here. It has never been used. It is probably 2-3 years old
