Type R Burping...Go Ported?

Hey guys, just need a little advice here. I recently got an Alpine Type-R 12" with an Alpine MRD-605 running to it. When I try to crank the volume my sub burps and almost sounds like it clips sometimes. Right now its in a box thats ~1.25 cubes, sealed. I'm thinking of building a ported box with Moe Lester's 1.75 cubic inch plans. Will this solve my burping problem? Thanks in advance for your help.

I bet you're bottoming out the speaker. Does it sound like a horrible clicking grinding sound? Passing the speakers X-mech will do that...

A ported box would just yeild more output and you would not need to crank it so loud.

Nah, its not really a horrible grinding...and no, I haven't checked my gains, what should they be set at? I'm a little new, so if you could bear with me that'd be great. I'm running a Pioneer head unit, and the sub started doing it today when the volume was at 40 out of 60. I've been taking it easy on it for now so hopefully I haven't done any damage.

Thats exactly the same setup i'm getting!
How do you like it? besides the burping sound? or does it do that all the time?

I absolutely LOVE this set-up, one Type-R is plenty for me, it bumps HARD! The burp only happens when I push it hard, like on a super-bass EQ on my HU. Other than that it's constant bass without a problem. You'll love it too, and if you have room to go ported, do it. I'm running sealed and it's amazing, but ported is gonna be so much better, at least from what I heard. I listen to alot of rap and like some heavy bass, so I'm going to try my luck at building a ported box from Moe Lester's plans. (FREE in the box building forum!) You will definately get your money's worth from this system! Good luck with it and let me know how you like it.

i think you just found your problem. read the gain setting sticky in the amplifiers sections and your sub will love you as much as you love her.
