Type R Box

I currently have a box that is about 1.7^3 gross, 1.3^3 net, tuned to about 30 hz. decently loud, but I could definitely use more. how big of a difference would I notice if I went to 2.0^3 net, tuned to 33 hz?

I did 1 12" for my buddy in 2 cubes at 30hz. It sounded awesome.... played a wide range of stuff and got nice and loud. 1.3 isn't really enough for a ported 12" Type R IMO.

yeah, thats what I originally thought, and the shop that built it blatantly ignored what I wanted and built it to the specs in the manual. I would probably try to build this one myself, any advice?

yup... you can get at pretty much everything through the port or sub hole. Just make sure everything is nice and level before you put on the top.

i did 2.2 before displacement at 32 hz and loved it

thanks guys, just one more question: on the RE Audio calculator, is the volume given the total net volume, before displacement, or total area, including port displacement?

well... tough to say how much it cost. It took less than a sheet of MDF, a little bit of glue, and some screws. If you dont have clamps, saw, router, etc. it will be quite a bit more unless you can borrow them.

that design looks good except the port is a little small. Total port area for mine was around 30 square inches. Also make sure you have enough mounting depth for the type R. I cant remember how deep they are off hand.

I wanted to tune my box to about 34 hz, and thats what the calculator said it was. the type r's mounting depth is about 8 inches.

man if i would have seen this before i had a box i had a type r in that i threw out... It was tuned to 32 hz. thats what i would recommend it was pretty loud.
