Type R and Kenwood KAC-8152D

Im looking at getting a new sub for my car cuz I blew my L7 last fall. I think Im gonna get a Alpine Type R SWR-1242D but I dont wanna blow this one with my new amp. Its a Kenwood KAC-8152D with an RMS of 550W at 2 ohm and the type r's rms is 500W. Im buyin this sub on a budget and from what it sounds it is exactly what Im looking for. Think the 50 watt difference is going to be a problem? Otherwise got any ideas of subs to match this amp? Thanks in advance.

i had this amp and type r with 2.5cb 32hz box and i wasnt happy at all... but i knew it wasnt goin be much that amp more like 350-400rms

that amps pretty much garbage... total budget amp... go for a true wattage amp like a fosgate or kicker/memphis.. anything is pretty much better... i have a rep at kenwood... and he hates there products and he works for them! haha my two type R's are taking 1200 watts like absolutely nothing... DB10001 RF.

I have had a 9152D for almost a year now with zero problems. I would not call Kenwood amps garbage by any means. There are far worse products out there.

As far as the 50 watts being a problem - nope. The speaker probably won't even see the 550 watts even with the gain all the way up.

Keep the Kenwood if it is working for you and spend more money on the sub.

Do a search on the Kenwood 8152, 9012, and 9152... there are tons of positive reviews for them. They're affordable amps that work well for 98% of people. They're not powerhouse amps, but who expects them to be at that price? Mine is rated at 900wrms@2 ohm and it might not give 900 watts, but it is pretty darn close.
