Two Alpine Type R Subs with questionable amps??

I have two alpine type R subs, SWR 1243. I have an Alpine MRP 500 amp. Now my choices are either two MRP 500's or one MRP 1000. Now my question. What would I get better performance out of? The two MRP 500's or the one MRP 1000? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
