Metering is like one of those things like ripping a bandaid off haha, been there. Idk if you have your roof braced or anything, but you're at the level you might be flexing some bass out...just a thought. Cool build for sure.

Ok, the pics aren't loading well for me, but it appears you have a gap above the wall. If I was you, I'd seal that rear gap sort of flush with the front of the box, and maybe do it with lexan so you can still see out of the back, tie it into the roof so it braces it. If you actually keep air from going behind the face of the box on all sides it would help the sound, IMO, just some thoughts, cool build for sure.

Metered no bracing (roof has almost zero flex and absolutely no rattles - very strong anti-roll design), window meter position, warm evening, loaded off one door. Flexing some bass from the hatch seal, for sure - do have thoughts/plans to wall off the rear section with some half inch Lexan but I know that will change my cabin tuning and it scares me because it sounds REALLY good now with a good bandwidth from about 24Hz up to about 55Hz. I did a 135db at 20Hz and a 147 almost at 35. I sat between 135 and 143 for every frequency between 20 and 50 on a sweep with the peak being 146.68 at 35. Pretty happy, ngl.

Yes fur was present but I don't see that making much difference at all and it was put there to eliminate port chuffing at the bottom end of my bandwidth (which I don't play often anyway).

Some pics decided not to load, but I wasn't sure if it was my end for some reason or the forum. I will post the pics again on a new post so you can have a look. Build is still slowly making progress, so nothing is "done" yet especially my really messy wiring which will be sorted out for sure in the near future.

Wiring the in back looks a lot better (still not perfect) now but battery box still not finished or painted/covered/wrapped (haven't decided yet on method). Under-glow on the amp looking very Need for Speed Underground 2.

Well I did a detour and made an "oopsie" and spent money on getting my front staging in order because it was pretty underwhelming before.

Test fit of a set of DS18 Pro-X 6.5" mids (under)powered by a Pioneer Champion GM-D9604 and my ears are ringing solid. Crossed over at 150hz with a -12 slope these things sound absolutely crisp!

Haven't connected the RGB aspect yet, and will now spend time fabricating the "pods" and integrating them to the door panel properly.

These speakers sound great after EQ'ing them a little, despite the fact the install is rough-as-shit currently with no sound deadener at all, and huge air gaps between the spacer ring and the door trim. Can't wait to hear how much it improves once I stack the doors with deadener and seal up the gaps.

Anyway, crap photo of the current test fit:

Best part is, cup holders are still accessible in the door

Got a little excited and finished up the mounting rings so they flush with the door using closed cell foam. Gave them a quick paint job of silver over a black base for now and kept up the neon/cyber theme of the interior, as pictured.

Grills are temporary just so nobody puts a foot through a speaker until new grills arrive. RGB bullet not yet connected because I accidentally left the harness at home when I took the car to the workshop at a mates place - so I have to connect that still. Outside of the lighting strip is white currently but will be covering in a black plastic molding that I've yet to fabricate.

Still heavily a WIP...

Oh, and I neatened up in the back. Wiring is mostly respectable and battery tote is painted black for now. Still in a perpetual state of not-finished like everything else. I also don't know why the last photo looks like it was taken circa 1974 either, but whatever, I guess.

So I got a little excited (again... still?) and motivated and did a thing or two...

Made my own grills by mashing together some random set of 6.5" Phillips grills from 1990something I had laying around, plus some Fusion marine speaker dudes I found on eBay for $25 or whatever. I also hard wired the RGB component of the midbass speakers to red, until I get around to building a controller for them (I'm NOT paying $100AUD+ for a $6 RGB controller, sorry DS18)

I also re-tuned and tweaked some stuff, plus the weather was a bit nicer and I managed a 148.1db at the windshield and a 151.7db at the port (port wars SQL comp is fun). The headrest position measurement was a 150 even, so I can't be mad at that. It's my second comp entry since this build has started and I couldn't be happier, especially since I built this for fun and as a hobby only (I never intended to enter any form of competition with it).

Today I also finally replaced the rear speakers which have just been the Bose 2 ohm 6.5" dealio guys. I just threw some cheap *** Kenwood KFC-1666 in there, super basic 30w rms 90db 6.5 coaxials... and to my total bewilderment, they're the perfect balance the audio profile was missing. No photos of those yet, as they're just in test fit right now but damn was I pleasantly surprised on how well they perform on the factory amp rear channel... probably because they're 5 inches behind my head.

Anyway here are some pics from the competition night with some updated images of the new grills on the front:

Speaker grill "construction" (if you can call it that).

Kids, this is what happens when you smoke a few too many bongs and have too much time to do stuff. I'm all about "who gives a shit" and "do whatever you want" so here we go:

Here we have cut a hole in some fairly "seen better days" grill from a vintage Philips 6.5" driver from days of "ye olde" with my Dremel. This is after I de-badged it, and sanded away the badge adhesive and poked all the little holes clear with some tig wire... then gave it a lick of Rustoleum glass black enamel.

Here is the Fusion branded grills I bought from some random eBay store for $25

This is after bonding them with some quick set two-part epoxy that took 10x longer to cure than it should have thanks to the record setting low temperatures (coldest in 108 years, locally) thanks, climate change? I guess?

Added a trip of closed cell foam to hide my sins, and viola! We have a badly centered photo of the final product...

I am yet to finalize it all with a custom, hand made diadem/badge of the DS18 logo on a stainless steel plate, which I will use to cover the shameful inclusion of Fusion hardware on each grill... coming soon or the year 2037, which ever comes first.
