Two 15 inch strokers...what happened......video inside

you dont HAVE to set your gains with a DMM, but if you dont you should be very conservative and keep them low.... being no where near or > than half.
You don't HAVE to use a DMM. There are MUCH better ways to do it. The DMM method isn't very accurate, IMO.

The deck has 4v pre-amp outputs. The bass boost was set to 75% and the subsonic filter was 75% of the total.
I guarantee that the subs had played well below tuning freq. of the box they were in and were getting a nasty signal with bass boost turned way up. You cooked em brotha!!!......it happens......next time set the ssf right and dont use bass boost.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crazy.gif.c13912c32de98515d3142759a824dae7.gif

BTW secure that amp, those hifonics definately dont like to be bounced around //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

My friend has just put in two cerwin vega strokers this weekend in his crown vic. The box is separate chambers 3.509 ft^3 per speaker tuned to 38.29 Hz. He got the box built at a local shop up here and I measured it when he got it out to check the tuning frequency and volume of the box. He had them in and played for about 20 minutes then we smelled voicecoil and smoke came out the ports and the speakers quit working. What could have made this happen? The speakers are rated at 2000 watts RMS EACH......
He has a 200 amp alternator, Hifonics brutus amp pushing the subs at 2600 RMS@1-ohm. The speakers have dual 4-ohm voice coils.

I hate to here that you fried the subs so quickly Crown, it sounded good from the vid. I wondered if firing a box like that (port back, subs up) would sound good in our types of cars instead of just firing the sub and port toward the rear.

I think it was a lot of things that killed those subs. Bass boost is def a no no, its not needed if you got your gains right. The gain was kind of high on that amp and probely pushing it past its limits. Plus with your SSF set so low, and the tuning set high, it was just all that put together that did it.

I would not have expected it that quickly, but that trunk was flexing something serious when it was working correctly. I hope he gets it straight soon....

I dont see any batts in there.... I almost gurentee that is was cause by cliping... drop an extra batt or 2 in there set sub sonic to sound 60-80 set w/ DMM mkae sure bass is not tuned up on head unit or the loud button and imo ported is better

Oh...and from what i'm getting on paper, that box is tuned to ~41-43hz.
if this guys right, and bass boost was @ 75% playing songs that have 30hz and lower on em?? = free air //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wow.gif.23d729408e9177caa2a0ed6a2ba6588e.gif

Yea if u had the trunk open and listenin to the it that way im sure we all know what clipping sounds like or when we've turned it up more than we was supposed to.

20mins though?

Yea, i dont see it...

Also u woulda smelled somethin burnin.

so by the amp not getting enough power that can cause clipping too? he has a 200 amp alternator from db electrical and we did the big 3 on his car in 1/0 knukonceptz wire. and the car is lifted used to have 24's on it.
