My friend has just put in two cerwin vega strokers this weekend in his crown vic. The box is separate chambers 3.509 ft^3 per speaker tuned to 38.29 Hz. He got the box built at a local shop up here and I measured it when he got it out to check the tuning frequency and volume of the box. He had them in and played for about 20 minutes then we smelled voicecoil and smoke came out the ports and the speakers quit working. What could have made this happen? The speakers are rated at 2000 watts RMS EACH......

He has a 200 amp alternator, Hifonics brutus amp pushing the subs at 2600 RMS@1-ohm. The speakers have dual 4-ohm voice coils.

hmmm...somthing touching or not wired right

That thing was wanging pretty nicely though

Where was the gain set at...and did yall play it full tilt for 20min straight?

They sounded clear because we played them with the trunk open to hear them and make sure they were working before we closed it up because you can't hear that inside the car if it was starting to sound bad. And we still had the back seat out the car from when we were runing wires. I didn't hear any bad noise from teh woofers. They was just shakin my body. lol.

We had the amp turned up just a little past halfway. I guess it was at 60% of full gain. One went out and then we played one speaker at 1700 RMS at 2-ohms since the box is divided and the 2nd speaker went out also. And we did not have it playing full volume for solid 20 mins. The 2nd one went out as soon as we turned it on by itself. He has a alpine CDA-9886 deck and the bass on the deck was set at 0.

yea had to be...sounded like they were being pushed a lil too hard in the video

anyone else hear that or is that just me?//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/hide.gif.2d479cfd917eedfe201353b91522ceab.gif

Ouch man....take it back to the shop asap....something was wrong man

Dont tell them you were playing it with the trunk open...sometimes that unloads the sub and lets it move further than its supposed to

But you shouldnt have to set gains with DMM....and if it was over half way i dont see how it could have blown them

Were u playing some crazy low songs....mighta been unloading from playing under tuning

But who knows from just a thread...take it to the place and make em fix it....shouldnt have blown in only 20min of having it

****, and I thought my Grand Marquis trunk lid was flexin' //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif. I always thought it was better for the subs to backfire then face up in vics/Merks/towncars //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif. But what do I know it still looked loud as hell. Hope the problem gets diagnosed and fixed right away.

You got the dimensions on that box? Just curious.

Songs we played - Gucci Mane - Stash House the 2nd one went out on. That's the song on the video. I don't remember any of the other songs.
Mighta been a combination of playing songs to low and open trunk.....but i still doubt it would do that in 20min

Good Luck man
