i see.

if i keep the gain low, i shouldnt have a problem running them 40 watts over rms?

do you know what input sensitivity (gain) does?

i just recently installed my first set of components. not hard at all. wire it up like the previous people said. don't worry about the impedence as it's not going to be an issue. im not an expert but from what i have read and learned turn your gain all the way down. turn your head unit volume up to about 75% of max you would listen to. turn your gain up slowly until you hear distortion and then back off a lil. if you turn your volume up more at any time and you hear distortion, turn your gain down til its gone and make sure your eq levels arent maxed out. i have my eq almost flat. with an amp and good speakers you shouldn't need to mess with your eq too much to get it where you like it.

i guess not.
im no expert.

just looking for a little help.
Gain is basically adjusting the amount of power you're sending to whatever your output is. So if you're components are lets say 60rms, and you're using an 80rmsx4 amp, you can adjust the gain accordingly to send the correct amount of power to the speakers.

And just an fyi, if you have a 80rmsx4 amp, turning the gain all the way up does NOT mean it is sending 80rms.

You want to basically just turn the gain all the way down, turn your head unit volume at the max volume you think you'll listen to it at, and slowly turn the gain up on the amp. When you start to hear a little distortion, back off on the gain an 8th of an inch and you're golden.
