Trunk Type Cars Box Sizes

I was just wondering what people thought about this. Ive heard that with trunk type cars you must leave space to the sides and the top so that the music "waves" can actually go back into the car. Some other people mentioned that trunk size doesnt matter at all as long as the box fits inside. Well from my experience I kinda think it does. For example when I built a ~3.0 cubes ported box with 34 wide, 14 height and 18 depth, it took up most of the trunk. I put some CVRS in that box and it didnt sound loud at all.

I thought it didnt matter at all either... but Spkrman (who seems to have lots of experience) told me that it is best if you take up less than 60% of your trunk width with your box.

^yea i knew there was a certain amount of space the subs needed. Well my trunk width is about ~36 so my box's width can only be 21 inches. lol.

The main reason I brought this up was because I was planning on going ported again with my JBL Power subs. Ive heard that these subs will eat the lowes like cookies with a ported box. It will probably be tuned to 28 hz.

Yeah my trunk is only 36" wide, and my current box is 34" wide or something... so I may have to build a new box next summer when I get some time.

my trunk is like 33" wide and i have like less than 20 in depth cuz im putting my amp in front...im gonna to make a box but it has to be 2.0cu.ft...

its probably gonna be

2.00cu.ft

external specs 22w 15h 16d

internal specs 21.25w 14.25h 15.25d

or

2.01cu.ft

external specs 19w 15h 18.5d

internal specs 18.25w 14.25h 17.75d

Which box? and are these good enough for my trunk or are they too big?

Ive got a 1995 Saturn SC2

Now that I look at my box specs, I lied a little bit... My box is actually 28" wide x 14" high x 17.75" deep
