to FUSE or not to FUSE?

Why yes, it is a Kicker comp. Good job... brand recognition. By the way, I'm getting the slightest inclination that you meant that as an insult. No need to worry though. There's not a chance in hell it will be taken that way.
Any day of the ****ing week, I'd rather have mediocre gear and good understanding of WHAT IN THE HELL IM DOING than to flaunt how much expensive products I "plan" to buy and have not a god **** clue what I'm talking about.

ok, i"ll give up on my hobby, maybe i should be weak like you and run a couple of 10s:laugh://content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif
Because your van with 4-18's was your very first system...

oh wait... it is. Probably why you ask such ridiculous questions:crazy:

Which is why I build and design boxes:rolleyes:

You're threatening to beat my *** because my car audio knowledge is in question to you? Yeah, I really see the relevance to the argument.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

EDIT: What local shop? I live in Valparaiso, IN. I am the local shop, more or less.

Actually, now that I think about it, there is a local shop (kind of). It's called Cartronix, but they only carry low end Pioneer and Sony xpl0d3z. And they charge outrageous prices

it is my first as a matter a fact, in a van...
this car melted the fuse blocks

See, the fuses were a good thing //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

And what's with all the hate for Kicker? I spy CVRs?//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/cool.gif.3bcaf8f141236c00f8044d07150e34f7.gif

in the event that your battery short circuits, it will put out in excess of 1000 amps.

This will of course light your wiring on fire.

More importantly, it will fry your equipment.

If you don't fuse, and anything goes wrong, your wires will catch fire, your battery will explode, and your alternator will overheat excessively, and melt its internals.

If you fuse for your wire, this will prevent your wires from catching fire, but your amp's fuses will blow, and most likely your amp will be damaged.

If you fuse for your equipment, your wire will not catch fire, your amps fuses may or may not blow, and your equipment probably will not be damaged.

You pick the option you want.

Ehhh, I'm not sure about a couple of those. Yes, your wires will melt and your alternator will go ape shit in an attempt to supply the ridiculous amount of current. But I don't see it frying your electronics. It's just grounding out. All the current is routed from the power wire, through the body of the car, and back to the battery again. You can't increase the power flowing through the electronics without upping the voltage... and the voltage will be dropping (fast) as it all the battery is discharged.

how do you fuse an amp that pulls over 1600amps of current, where and who makes a fuse for that, i will actually need 2 800 amp fuses just for the sd16k a fuse to the back battery only, the charging cable is the only one i would even put in if i did. because my back batteries are right next to the amplifiers and that run of wire will not have any fuses so the amps can get full current and i dont have to worry about popping a fuse when i compete, ive done the whole fuse in and replace it with a solid chunk of copper for the show. but is there even an 800amp fuse for car audio?
I can't believe you are still debating this. If you're so worried, fuse it while driving, then don't fuse it at comps. That simple.
Oh, and there is not an amplifier on the planet that can pull 1600 amps of current. The amount of voltage required to create that much amperage in a car with a 4 ohm load is 6400 volts. A lightning strike has at a minimum of 1000 amps of current flowing through it up to about 300,000 amps just for a reference. I know what you're thinking: this is an amplifier, not a physics problem. Right, but your amplifier requires a bias voltage to amplify the input signal, and if you're pulling 1600A of current down that line, then that means you're somehow getting at the very least 1600V from up front. That is neither possible nor feasible.

hey....STUPID, YEAH YOU!!!
jeff who?

why dont you try Bill Ingvall

Hey thanks!

Been a while since I've watched that shit. Couldn't remember who said the slogan.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/veryhappy.gif.fec4fed33b4a1279cf10bdd45a039dae.gif
