I use very little math when designing my ported boxes and they all slam. Tuning your boxes by hand > equations.
Then you have never designed an enclosure in your life. Even if you feel that you have intuition and don't need to use a program or formulas, that intuition is based off mathematics. It just is, and there is no way around it. All of the rules of thumb, little tricks and other methods people use when designing enclosures are all based off theory. All of them. If you think that you don't have to use any math while designing enclosures, then you're incredibly mistaken.

Read again, I said "Very little." I do use a little math to calculate volume, but that's about it. From there on I hand-tune the rest of the enclosure. There is no point in trying to make an enclosure within 0.01% error of the intended specs because there is no simple formula to determine what's best for a vehicle. But yes, I do use enclosure theory. Through my hands-on experience and talking with others I have developed my own ideas of what makes an enclosure work well.
