tips on buyin used car

i was jw if theres any tips i should be aware of when buying used. i've got my eye on an 95 eclipse gtx for 3k$. they've said that it's got a japanese motor in it that they had to tweak out to fit, something about non americanized or other. it's a dohc turbo 4 cyl. engines got 50k miles, body 100k. and has a rebuilt ******, wifes sellin it cause they ended up spending more than expected on it. im mainly not wanting to get a "clunker" lol, would this fit that catagory?

its a dsm its bound to break but veeeeery fun cars gsx all wheel drive turbo = fun i had one with my brother it was pushing 350-400 to the wheels very fun but broke down every other week id save ur cash and get something newer and less dsm

test drive it, drive it hard for half an hour, if you cant break it in half an hour hard drivin, it will probably run for a couple years if you drive it easy.

what's your budget look like? do some research, make a list and add everything it will cost per month to run that vehicle. you can get a newer, lower mile economy car for a little more per month in payments, but you'll make up that difference in gas and maintenance costs. or get a sportier car with higher miles for less per month and spend a ton on gas and maintenance. i opted for in between and got an s-10 with the 4.3 v6. zips around pretty good, gets ok gas mileage, and a little bit of maintenance costs. don't buy blind. i made that mistake more than once. don't just shop for cars without spending a decent amount of time researching on the internet.

i love mine. i have a broken motor mount now, probably 2. getting it fixed this week. some fairly minor maintenance issues. more of a pain than anything if you do the work yourself. the mounts will cost under 50 bucks, but replacing them sucks. dual exhaust coming next week. i should get around 260 hp after exhaust. pretty good out of a non turbo or supercharged v6.

ask if you can take it for a test drive. take it to a local shop and have them give it a check over. and see what a master mechanic say's.. then go from there..

get it worse comes to worse you can pick up a 4g63 local for super cheap if the DSM blows
