Ok so i made my first attempt at building a box this weekend and lets just say it was miserable, i couldnt even get it to hold together, i use 3/4 MDF and 1 1/2 wood screws, and it just fell apart, can anyone give some advice on how to design and build a box that will fit in my car and sound good plus stay in one piece??

I am looking to build a sealed box for 2 12's that will go in my 06 mustang if its any help, i want to do custom boxes for me and my friend, his dad owns a buisness and were working for him so were going to build consoles/sub boxes for the whole fleet of work vans, and this is my warm up project, we are also planning on building a box for 3 L5's for the back of his 96 chevy Silverado.

thanks for any help

Well, you need wood glue. Look for the Titebond glues (my most recent project used Titebond I, but I normally use II) or Elmer's Probond. All three are good. Stay away from polyurethane glues, as they expand and can offset the alignments. Beyond that, just remember to measure 10 times and cut once and above all else, have fun. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

so u glue the box together before you put screws in it???

he owns a branch of American Leak Detection, we find leaks in house, pools, etc. and we have chevy vans and there stock sound systems ****, so were putting probably one rockford punch 10 in every van, but me and my friend are putting a 13 JLW7 in ours //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif all with the help of our favortie CPA, tax time is great. lol i get to spend someone elses money for a change

anyone got a good page with pictures and step by step tutorial, i have the tools, and have fiberglassed a few things, that may also be an option, but a step by step process would be awesome

thanks

haha.

On a serious note, i usually predrill a couple holes before i put the glue on so that once i get glue on the ends all i have to do is quickly put in a couple of screws and it will hold on its own well. Mainly because the boards will typically tend to try to slide around on you with the glue on the ends. And if you only have 1 set of hands it will make it kind of hard to make sure you ends are flush and then predrill your holes. Just a little thing i do that seems to make it easier.
