Time Alignment vs. Phase Shift

I tend to eq left and right seperately. Looking at each side individually mine looks fubared beyond belief. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Do you pick a point in the drivers side headrest and measure to that point for each speaker and use the equation?

Nope , I built my car so there is a 1.5" pld between both sides. Ta useage in my car isn't about getting it centered. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Don't get me wrong, there is use of ta, (delay is a better term for it) in my car. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Delay is essentially what TA is and does. You delay the other speakers to correspond to the furthest speaker so that the sound gets to your ears at the same time from all of the speakers. Its obviously not that simple, but the basic idea.

yeah , there are a few other factors. But that is the basic idea //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Thats how you do it that way when you tune and do any T/A its sounds open and airy and not like a deformed teepee or shoe box. Heard many cars sound great until you turn your head or sloutch while sitting or are just flat out shorter or taller than the guy who tuned it/owns it.

My car is my daily driver, but I compete in MECA every now and then //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I want to compete MECA, but none close to Mississippi. This is my 2nd year (with this truck) with USACI.

I have a few team mates that compete in USACI. I'm in the same boat as you are with meca though when it comes to USACI. No shows within 500 miles except for an occasional SPL show //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

It is only as expensive as you want to make it. Your install can make up for what you do not have in pricey gear, was that way when they had the wider span in rules where they counted everything + install and needed crazy things to get bonus now you can be graded on just sq on a more simplifed scoring system. A good speaker installed very well will usually out perform a better more expensive speaker that is thrown into a stock location for simplicity reasons and would need for less tuning.

Car audio is the anti drug. By the time you get your setup to the point you think your happy with it. You have no money left for drugs even if you wanted them //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Exactly. Anything to get more frequencies coming from one source/area makes a big difference.
