This sound like a bad ground?

I got my system installed a couple weeks ago, all runs fine except for 1 problem i have which i cannot figure out if its the amplifier or just the wiring thats causing this problem.

So heres the problem.

When i turn my volume to 25/35, after a while or when a loud ass bass hits, my subs would cut off. The amplifier power is still on but not feeding my subs any power. All the wires are connected correctly. The ground wire from my capacitator is hooked onto the chasis near my backseat. Note: its not grounded on bare metal either, its grounded on the paint.

Does this sound like a bad ground?

Im pretty new into car audio and i assume when i jack up the volume and when theres really loud bass that hits it doesnt ground properly so the amp doesnt feed the subs any power as some sort of protection or something.

My subs will work after i turn off my car for a good 30mins.

I hope this aint a amp defect b/c i dont want to go through the hassle to get it repaired since i bought the amp on ebay.

500.1 amp powering 2 12" V3's

4GA power kit.

PLEASE HELP, and THANKS A BUNCH in advance.

grounding on paint is bad. very bad.

if you know its grounded to paint why wouldn't you remove the paint first? sounds like a power problem... do the lights dim bad? are you keeping a steady voltage at high volume? did you set your gains correctly?

I was talking to a sales rep at tweeter that ive known for a while and he seems to know his stuff... he said that some amps cut the audio signal after the voltage drops past 11 volts. Does this sound right to anyone?

its getting hot and shutting off!

may be defective amp,or the ground.make sure where its connected to the ground point, its nice and bear metal, cant have any paint on it.or try a different spot.

when i had my civic, had to ground it to the rear strut bolt.

The amp does not go into protection mode, my lights do not dim because i got a capacitator. In the beginning i set my gains way too high on the amp, boost control, and HU which caused my amp to clip. (After a hard bass hits, the amp power light turns off, then back on, but never goes into protection) I took it back to the shop where i got it installed and they helped my lower my gains and my amp doesnt clip anymore, it just cuts off power to the sub.

Instead of scraping the paint where my ground is to bare metal, should i take it back to the shop and have the pull the wire to the front of my car where the ( - ) battery terminal is? Or would scraping the paint off till bare metal better???

This doesnt sound like a defective amp right? Just wiring issue?

You got a picture of where u grounded it?

I had the same exact problem with my amp. I re-did my ground wires and sanded the paint off the floorpan and used a ground foot terminal to a bolt thats attached to the frame, securely bolted that with a locknut and all is perfect. I can turn up my system really loud now and no problems.
