Think ill be able to pull off a hairtrick?

Well since you guys had me rethinking my decision i decided to try and check it out myself on WINISD Pro and came up with this. With a box with the interior demensions of 35.5 by 22.5 by 21.45 tuned at 28Hz id be getting this as my output which seems like it has a good all around response for pretty much any rap/decaf music if im not mistaken. Like i said this is all a first time experiance for me so i could be wrong. Whatcha think?

The two motors not matching I did not catch. Should have just traded or just bought a mate and sold the other. How much do you really lose buy vs. sell price on those? Not like they lose value, so only the cost of shipping I'd think.
10 boxes isn't a lot and what works in a WALL with DD-Z doesn't really translate into Sundown in a box in a Blazer. Not like you tested higher tuning or a bunch of different subs, and it's not like you own any sort of meter to comment on frequency response in a meaningful way. We have only very subjective evidence that this was "good" and the fact that you were talking about more power almost immediately, then tore it down and sold everything so quick leads to the suspicion that you weren't very happy with it regardless of what you say.

Expect DD to sue you blind if you tried to make knockoffs of their motors (notice even China hasn't tried it for some reason?) though it sounds like a fun project. I think you'd be surprised at the actual cost of making a neo motor all-in. Shocker Mike priced it out a few years back and doing it like he wanted would have been really steep.
I said it in MULTIPLE posts that the pole piece was taller on one than the other. It was like a 2" difference.

Before I sealed it off, it was just a box with the DD Z's in my truck. The box wasn't taller than the headrests. How many times to I need to explain why I re-did it?

Now you're talking out your ass because several companies HAVE copied Z motors. The DD Z top assembly Evan had fit perfectly on his EMF YOLO motor. He owned Z's at the same time as the YOLO. The only difference is the top and bottom plates are tooled rounded on the YOLO. Otherwise, they are identical. THEY HAVE THE SAME GAP SPECS //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

Also, I wouldn't sell the motors. I would just make 12 for myself and do a 12 12's sealed wall on the four 7k's

Almost 10 cube may be too big for that Sundown. They're normally designed to function in smaller boxes. Try going down to 7 or 8 cube and see if that tames that peak a little for you (going down to 8 cube shouldn't sacrifice much output).

You will get a peak from the vehicle in there somewhere around 50hz, what I find really ugly sounding is a valley in between a low tuning peak and the car's resonance. I'd far rather have an even rolloff on either end sacrificing extension than say 30hz really loud, 50hz really loud and 40 really mushy sounding.

Also if you really think you like whale songs you could probably get away with tuning even lower.

On the bright side, once you have seen what response to expect then get a feel for how it plays real world you'll get a better idea of what you like and what to change when and if you switch things up.

Wow, those EMF motors are indeed DD knockoffs, and a pretty good price assuming they actually use the same grade steel and neo. I knew that Brazilian "Shocker" was doing DD knockoffs, but who is going to sue for copyright in Brazil? Very surprised that DD hasn't (can't) do anything about that.

How come if they're so cheap to make does everyone charge 1000$ and up for their neo subs? Surely there's not THAT much profit margin in subs?

I do know DD dealers don't make hardly anything off a Z sale. I can't imagine the EMF being the same grade. It's a Alibaba motor

Ok thanks for the input when i get off work ill hop back on WinISD and mess around with the box size to see what i can come up with. Is the vally caused by the box being too big? Still learning

The "valley" is going to appear because you have the 3dB peak @ 30hz then you'll get another peak between 47 and 54hz (wherever your vehicle resonates). Without knowing where you get that peak from your vehicle's cabin it'll be hard to plan around.

The reason I say smaller box is that I know sundown designs around smaller box. Play around with box volume and watch that peak. From 4 cube to 6 cube you'll notice a lot more gain than 6 to 8, then even less from 8 to 10. There's a point where you lose a lot from going smaller and a point where you don't gain much from going bigger. The sweet spot is in the middle somewhere.

Yes, they are exact copies besides the cosmetic tooling variation. I'd assume Brazil is like China with copyright stuff. China makes a lot of Honda "clone" engines identical to Honda small engines for a fraction of the price. They're popular in kart racing.

If you also read my response to the next quote, I don't think they would be expensive to make. The reason everyone charges so much is because they can. People are willing to pay it, so they have no need to sell cheaper.

That's because the dealers aren't the one making a killing on the sale.

The company DD spends a lot on R&D. They had to pay some guy a lot of money to design the original Z. It was something nobody had done before, and it worked fantastic.

Think about the cost of the raw material that goes into it. Aluminum is cheap, and it's mostly Aluminum. Tooling it isn't too complicated because the pillars are just blocks. The top plate is also aluminum, not steel, and it's not a complicated shape. The pole piece and back plate use the most material out of all the parts, and that piece is made of steel. The magnets aren't expensive and then all you've got left is bolts to hold it together.

Alright awesome, i know my blazer resonates at 51Hz from what ive looked up. Ill toy around with it and see if i can find a good middle point
