The two motors not matching I did not catch. Should have just traded or just bought a mate and sold the other. How much do you really lose buy vs. sell price on those? Not like they lose value, so only the cost of shipping I'd think.Hairtricks are cool for demo's
The Z's weren't identical motors, which bothered me. It would have been almost impossible to find matching 99z motors without spending thousands.
If I get the job at the local fabrication shop, I could literally blueprint a 99z and make some for a fraction of the cost.
The subs I have now are great for the price. Eventually, I probably will go back to neo, yes.
I've built more than 10 boxes. Two setups have done impressive hairtricks. He wants hairtricks, and I told him what worked for me. That's not bad information, that's telling him what WORKED to do what he wanted. Is it going to be different for the subs he has, probably.
I'm not going to 4" coils unless I do a smaller cone area build with a higher ratio 4th order wall
10 boxes isn't a lot and what works in a WALL with DD-Z doesn't really translate into Sundown in a box in a Blazer. Not like you tested higher tuning or a bunch of different subs, and it's not like you own any sort of meter to comment on frequency response in a meaningful way. We have only very subjective evidence that this was "good" and the fact that you were talking about more power almost immediately, then tore it down and sold everything so quick leads to the suspicion that you weren't very happy with it regardless of what you say.
Expect DD to sue you blind if you tried to make knockoffs of their motors (notice even China hasn't tried it for some reason?) though it sounds like a fun project. I think you'd be surprised at the actual cost of making a neo motor all-in. Shocker Mike priced it out a few years back and doing it like he wanted would have been really steep.
