So, I was at the barber shop and the barber was chatting with me when his radio started to skip. apparently this reminded him of an opening he had. there is a car body shop behind his shop and he was looking for someone to setup a small system install type bay. i told him that i have some knoledge but very little experiece with the subject. I was told that for 100 dollars a month i would have a spot there w/ free electricy to do some work. its in a fairly popular area, right across from the air base entrance/exit and less than 3 miles from the base housing. i figured i could do simple installs such as building boxes, installing headunits and amps. think i should take up his offer? I dont know how to do some of the more difficult things like fiberglassing and modifying door panels for aftermarket components/coaxels. wondered on some of your opinions, as that this is something i would like to do in my future and i imagined it would be a great learning expereince and possibly a way to make some money.

there is alot more than having the space to have a shop. you'll need an occupational license to operate and get dealer pricing for product. you'll also need to come up with prices for your work. you'll also need to be able to keep a small stock of atleast wire and connectors, that's only if you have a distributor close by so you can just pick up the rest. you'll also need to check to see if that area is even zoned for that type of commercial business. you'll also need to get info from you local City Hall to get info so you can pay local/state/fed taxes.

I really wish you were local to me, I'd get that ***** up and running in 48 hours.

dude go for it. you give the man 100$ a month and he doesnt want anythig else??? are you just going to set up a sign or does he sell car audio??? where will your customers come from?

just do simple installs you know will come out 100% right. i wouldnt pay any kind of taxes. id just spread word of mouth kinda like a service youre offering. and as long as you only work on cars you are good with and know it will come out 100% then you should be good. put a add on craigslist and explain to them the entire deal and offer a partnership to a more experienced installer.

x's 2 !!!

being near the airbase ...if you can build good boxes...you could specialize in that and do basic installs...most people get stuff off the internet or at flea markets these days...and just need help installing it.....Alarms and remote starts are fun and profitble also...and really easy to install pretty much the same as hard wiring a stereo....
