ummm before i start this dramatic episode, ill list my equipment .... i dont have any components yet :S

1x Planet Audio vx2200 - 2250wrms@13v

4x Concept PT Series subs

1x 7cubic foot box *before displacement* tuned to 35hz

Sony HU .... ahah .. anyways

so i first decide a few months ago i want somehting similar to my truck stereo which had 4 PG ti12s and 1800watt abahn amp found here: http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/423103/5

a deal came across on the amp first off so i bought an amp before subs. even though thats not a GREAT idea it did save me money. my friend owed me 250 and the guy *boolean* was selling the amp for 450 shipped from canada. i shelled out 200 and gave it to the firned that owedme money and he ave me his laptop. i traded the laptop straight up for the amp.

amp%20amp.JPG

then i find a guy on hereselling 4 concept PT subs. dual 2ohm. will wire down just right. 400 for all 4, 450 shipped he *pro-rabbit* said. i sent the MO of 450 and he then tells me they will cost 180 to ship. i agree to meet him at acompeition 3hrs away from ym house to pick them up. while im at it he decided to build me a box for my trunk ported to whatever i wanted. awesome. me and my roomy *who had the laptop i traded for the amp* decide to leave out at 3:15am to sleep in the car and shower at pro-rabbit's mom's hotel room. we drive across state and into missouri and get there at 6:15am. sleep for one hour, get up, take a shower in cold water in a busted bath tub thats leaking all in the floor.

we then go to the show and wait for pro-rabbit. my friend has to be backa t work by 6 and he was gnna be there at 1. 3:15pm rolls around and he pulls up. we only had enough time to literally man handle the box and smash it in the trunk *it was soooo close it almost didnt fit* bye bye weather stripping :p the amp instantly starts cutting off too while we are there. we didnt have time to mess with it so we left with no bass and drove 95 the wholw ay abck and my friend made it by 3 minutes or else he would have ben fired *no joke*. i get home and find out the subs were all paralleled .... that must be why the amp cutoff.

i wire the wires coming from the box in series and knock the load up to 1ohm as opposed to the 1/4 ohm it was at. its still cutting out ... wtf? i found out one of the voice coil wires was torn from the connector on the furthest sub towards the back. the whole connector peice jsut fell into the box. theres no way the box is coming out of the trunk. the sub wont lift up and out nor can we tilt the box and take the sub out ue to so little room. right before smashing the box with a hammer to get the sub out i decide to take the top peice off the box and then remove the sub. me and my roomy grab stubby screwdirvers *b/c no drills would fit* and unscrew about 47 screws by hand at night, awkwardly handed, and the 8 screws on each sub. we used screwdrivers and hammers and chisel the top peice apart from the liquid nails holding it on allll the way around and used some extra 4awg to hold what was already pried up from going back down. this is after ripping all the fresh carpet off, and counting all the bruises, bloody knuckles, wire splinters, and crusty calluses on my hands //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/furious.gif.fc81ca146dbff91fede3ed290dbc4f4c.gif :p

then its not over yet. we had to chisel all around, even thru the small port in the back seat for the rear side of the box. afterwards we lifted the subs up and sat them on something so the weight of them wouldnt keep the top peice from coming loose. a wash bucket and motorcycle battery charger do wonders

break%202%20-%20closeup.JPG

i decided to ask my boss if he could solder the busted speaker .... i bring my sub to work but forgot the connector for the lead so i take my lunch break and go get it. my boss fixed it right up and i took it home. right when i got home i got the top of the box, and rescrewed it back on *w/o liquid nails so theres still a few air holes* then put the subs in the rear that were good then proceeded to putthe box in the trunk with 2 subs in. my and ym friend kicked, pushed, grunted, farted, and smashed this thing in there by nearly busting a tail light and bending the metal on the car. the rear 2 subs i forgot to screw down so they almost fell out when we were putting the box in the trunk. once we get it in i already had all my wires hooked up on the current subs, and had the connections all ready for the next 2 subs. hooked it up and proceeded to turn it on. i forgot ym RCAs ... doh ... only to find out they fell in under the spare tire-well while forcing the box in. my frined about had a tumor holding the box up while i fished around for the RCAs. i luckily got them and hooked it all up and here i am hundreds of miles ater, hundreds of dollars later, and tens of hours later with a few final pics ..... :p

words cant describe the time+patience for this darn thing. we worked 6pm-2am 2 nights and 2pm-6pm on saturday. my power wire also had to be ran from one side of the engine to the other, then right back to the passenger side once inside *good thing i bought the extra 5 feet of wire instead of being a cheapskate like usual* the wire terminal also didnt wanna fit my battery screw. i thought i had it once and ended upd ropping the mains crew intot he airdam somewhere *its still hidden* and somehow finding another one the same size. all works well now though. whew ... jsut had to vent ... what do u guys think? its not quite as good on SQ as my trucks 4 12s, doesnt really even sound as ressure-ful(word?) as my truck but that may be due to SEVERE trunk/spoiler rattling and not 100% sealed box.

after:

box%20-%20in%20trunk.JPG

edit: i noticed it wasnt my trunk rattle that sounded like crap ... it was the port in the box ... theres a screw in the middle and one on each side so its making big air gaps and wood slapping-together sounds on loud notes. nothing liquid nails and some screws shouldnt fix.

crazy story man, it definitely looks like it pounds
i forgot to mention .... even though i havent set my amp yet it does POUND!!! im sorta glad i went with a higher tuned box b/c my car cant pickup the low lows anyways :S i found this out after buying the subs and box. i even tried 3 different subs in this box, a 2cube box sealed, a 1cube sealed box, and a 2.5 cube sealed box ... still no luck below ~32hz :S

Spoken like a true Car Audio enthusiast. Glad to see it was all worth it and you're happy! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/clap.gif.178cba2c538c68e720c727fcb024b19c.gif

Oh yeah, forgot to mention that you have a really good friend who risked his job and stayed up with you to fix your stuff. That's a true friend you got there. Props to him!

did i mention these subs are HUGE :p

thanks for all the help and support to everyone. i was in a state of mind thinking how much trouble it was getting everything done .... but i now know why .... i LOVE car audio ... mmhmmm mhmmm yeaaaa ..... bmmpppppp bmmm bmmmmmp //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif:D:D:D

sorry there are a lot of typos in the original post .... my hands tend to get ahead of me when im all revved up typing a post. i have became friends with both of the guys i bought stuff from on the forums, who also helped me a lot. more thanks to pro-rabbit and boolean

Hey man, nice post! Glad to see you are happy with the amp as I am happy with the laptop.

Great doing business with you and glad to keep in touch //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Thanks,

you sound like me when i was trying to stuff a system in the trunk of a Mazda Rx7 convertible and still retain some decent airspace. I twisted in some ways I dont think some contortionists could pull off.

Nice post!!

lol, when we had it as far as it would go pushing ... we had another 4" to go and the top of the box was already against the top of the trunk. we have to really grunt and bend metal to get that thing in there. got any pics?

sadly I don't have any pics of the mazda. we ended up disassembling the box and reassembling it in the trunk. It never would fit. It was still pretty funny though.

I still have the car, just the system isn't in it any more. I'll get some pics of the trunk so you can see how rediculously small it is.

with a box that big... i'd suggest bracing that vent with a cross piece. that should kill the vent noise of wood slapping
between the bottom of box and vent or between the vent and otp of the box? .... i put a small brace *actually a pair of channel locks/pliers gripping a nail "to keep the handles open" and a gromet on top of the handles* to keep pressure between the vent and bottom of box. that hlped but ended up rattling out. the thing is ... i cant really brace the box now ince its all back in. unless u want to pull it allll back out. i think im just gonna build a new box out of thicker wood with more screws slightly less length, sayy .... 30 wide, 12 tall, and 30 deep as compared to 30x12x35

i cant NOT get this box to stop blowing big air gaps between screws lol. i added about 15 more screws between long lengths of some of the current ones *only on the fornt half of the box since i realized it after i put the box in* and it helped where i added them but not overall. i need to find out how hard it will be to tune a 30x30x12 box to ~30hz. the sub mags are close to the port now and not muhc room on the side of the sub mags for more port area which i will need. i can move the subs a lot closer though, and add bracing while building it like i needed it to begin with. thanks for the ideas, i have really been thinking heavily on it.
