The Official Type R Thread

Gotcha. As far as improvements, i would say you need a slightly bigger box. I think the minimum for a ported box with 2 12"R's was 2.8 cu.ft. Those were the specs the sound guys that built my box gave me. They said the perfect size for my car/setup was 3.0 cu.ft. But the least should be 2.8cu.ft. That should let you hit the lows alot better, and get that bass that makes your nose tickle. I had a 2 cu.ft box when i started out and it was loud, but i could never really hit the lows hard or feel the bass. The 3.0 box made a world of difference, now it about makes me sick with all the bass. Alot of it will have to do with how your crossovers, low pass filter, subsonic filter etc.. all of that are set. It took me forever to tune mine in. I bought my system almost a year ago, and im just now getting it right. But when you get it right, it will be worth it. Keep trying different setups until its right, dont settle for "ok" sound and dont give up. Hope that helps.

i only have one type r.

sounds like i might have alreay build a decent box unless i should go a little smaller.

the only thing that bothers me is that my brothers W3 in his ported box with about 350watts almost hits just as hard as the type r.

his set up sounds a little tighter while mine sounds a little more raw.

thats kind of what i want to change. i want tighter bass. i know that going sealed would be better for that but im waiting on my other W6 to build an enclosure for thoes babies.

cool, thanks.

im really indecisive when it comes to thing so i just wanted to get someone elses opinion.

I know for sure the 2 W6's are going to go in a sealed box but i just wanted to try and get the most out of this type R before i sell it. everyone here talks about how they come alive in a ported box so i gave it a shot.

Heres a really cool site. On this page, http://www.bcae1.com/ go to the right hand side of the page and scroll down to speakers, click on it and on that page youl find an SPL calculater, youll have to calculate your speakers efficiency before you calculate the SPL. Put in your speaker info and some other specs, and it will tell you what your SPL level should be. I have an in dash SPL moniter, and the calculation on the site was only a few SPL off of the actual reading, so its pretty accurate. If you dont know some of the specs just ask me.

I've been looking for a new sub and was wondering if a 12inch type R would work well with a rockford fosgate 900watt amp? I'm curently running a rockford HX2 with this in a 1.25ft cubed sealed or ported box (you can seal it or port it). Would this amp and box work? Also, in your guy's opinions, which is better a type R or a 12w3?

I had 2 12w3's a while back, didnt like em very much, love my type R's

I've been pretty pleased with my Type R so far but I've been considering getting a better amp. I currently am running an Audiobahn A8002T (800 RMS @ 4 OHMS) to it but I know I'm not getting all of those 800 RMS and it seems like the sub can take more. What would you guys recommend doing? Should I wire my sub differently and get a different amp or what? I'd like to put about 1,000 RMS to it but can't find an amp that does 1,000 RMS @ 4 OHMS because it's pretty impractical.
