The Official Type R Thread

i have it for 2 type-r's id reccomend it if you only get 1, but for 2 it doesnt have the power for it it puts out about 8xx w/rms @ 2ohm, you can get a much better amp for the same ammount of money....

I welcome anyone to duplicate my tests... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif Someone with an SX just grab a type R, its not exactly gonna break the bank anyway //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
^^^ i've was seeing a lot of type r pimpin' goin' around and this particular statement got my attention. i had an sx12...i had a few hundred laying in paypal, so i threw ~$130 at a type r on ebay. this was a quick little test that required minimal work to complete.

the setup: i only have one box for 12"s...a sealed 1.25 before driver displacement. i've got a ton of subs laying around, but, only three of my 12"s are dual 2ohm, so that's all i tested this round. i ran all three off my ss10.0 @ 1ohm. the meter was on the dash and windows up(so as not to disturb the neighbors too much). i rolled up on on the volume a couple of times for each frequency and kept the highest reading i could get at least 2x each sub. my results:

id v3: 139.9

type r: 140.5

re sx: 141.4

i cannot say anything about the sq of each because i have played nothing but test tones with each.

in all fairness, i've seen people post that the type r hates sealed boxes.

i will do more testing in a ported enclosure as soon as i build(or borrow) one. i will also break out some other 12"s (fosgate p3, pioneer spl2000, and re re) and hit them with another amp that produces decent power @ 2ohms.

Yay! I wish someone with a baffle wall who ran their subs IB in a sedan or something would do tests like this, they'd be more accurate without the worry of tuning frequencies or sealed Q. Of course there would still be unique cabin gain, but you can't ask for everything.

Anybody have a spare anechoic chamber sitting around that they're using for anything at the moment? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif
