Found out where the MOST LIKELY place this DUMBASS misconception came from...
Circuity City's Roadshop online training program. It was part of one of the lessons, had a quiz at the end...asked "Which is worse for a subwoofer, underpowering or overpowering?" I obviously answered overpowering...but of course...I was wrong //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

Wow, I wonder how my 100wpc-rated Forte II's feel about that, being driven with 3.5wpc...

lol That's just sad.

So you are saying that alpines gain is different than all others? So how does it work?
yes, there are set numbers, i dont know them off the top of my head but its not a knob that you can turn, there are 2 arrows and it jumps around alot it starts at something like 4 then the closer you get to 0 the louder it gets, theres a 2, 1.5, 1, .7, etc. its hard to tune exact b/c of this...

So you CAN blow a sub w/o an ssf? Or is that only if you're going to be bringing the sub over it's rated power?
yes if it plays below tuning in a ported box....

I found out that I will not be able to fit 4 15's in my car. I can only go 29"X41"X20" or whatever the height would have to be. Could I make a box with 2 subs on top, 2 on back, and port on back, or would that sound like crap? I could just make a box with 4 12" L7s on top and the port on back. let me know what you guys think

im sure you could get 4 sealed 12's in there. If not just go with two ported 15's and im sure you will be happy. Plus with only 2 subs, you would get by just dandy with a 1200.1 amp

Well I'm a biased opinion so I'm voting the L7's. I have been drivin' those things for almost 6 months and they haven't even shown a sign of struggle. They hit exretmley hard.

But isn't 4 l7's or 4 type R's a little bit of over kill coming from just a solo 9500? Those L7's would hit a lot harder then the type R's. The 2500 Should power them all nicely since they would all be gettin' 600rms each. L7's = 750 Type R's I guess vary from = 500-750.

I'm voting 4 is overkill for daily drivers, but my recomendation is that you compete with it as well if your going to do 4! But dude enjoy and I say go for the L7's. People will hear you from over a mile away. And either way make sure your car is louded with some kind of deadner or you'll regret it!

dont' just say I have "one subwoofer", because yes I do, but I've exceded other people's systems that leave them in disbelief. The best was this weekend, I had taken my system out for a few repairs, then went to circuit city for some ipod adapter for my pioneer HU. An employee there had a 13W7 with 2 JL1000/1s hookedup to it i think with a cap, and optima yellow top in the back, I "thought" it was much louder than my system until I came back with mine installed and did a voice compare. The installers there were in so much disbelief from how much sound was coming from my 1 12" 9500 that he said "I can't believe I wasted 600 dollars on a W7". Man that made me feel good, lol. Beating his W7 by a TON, and only feeding my 1501d 2v from my HU (soon to be 9.5v after overdrive is installed). Anyways, adding more cone area is the old way to just getting your system loud. The only reason I'm changing is because I want more airflow so it's harder to breathe. I know 4 12" L7s would probably get rowdy, as I've hear 2 which was decent, but I just don't want it to sound like crap. Also, one more question referring to my last post. Could I slap 2 15's on top, and 2 in the back, and have the port on the bottom? I'll make a sketch for you to see waht i'm talkin about.

^^^^I don't dought ya. Those 9500's are extremley powerful subs. Why don't you just buy another one then!? I'm sure that would be comparable to the 4 l7's or 4 r's!? But on the L7's mine are in tune with every single beat. It all depends on the box build and the Freq you set it to on your amp as well. But those L7's I think would be louder.
