The Official Type R Thread

Just to be clear... this sub still kicks arse! I mean, I know for a FACT that I was pushing the MAX out of it for the whole 2 days. I mean, I should have went lighter with the gains, etc, but just like everyone else, too much is not enuff, and I pushed it very, very, very hard. As I said, I will do another Type R probably because it was just simply amazing sounding... so clear and smooth, just wont be able to shake houses 2 blocks away, maybe only 1 with the correct settings //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I never said I was not at fault for this //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif I know I was.

Just wanted people to see that you need to be carefull with this stuff, its not like you just bought a 500W sub, with a 500W amp, and you can do whatever you want with it without any problems.

When you run 1000W (Rated by Alpine) to a 500W RMS sub, you cant crank the piss out of it to see how loud it will go.

Obviously //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

It was for infomative purposes. Ive NEVER, EVER, EVER blown a sub in my life, till this one. But then again, ive never sent 2x the RMS wattage to one either. I guess this is just a learning experience, and im glad I had a $100 sub to do it with, not the standard $300+ subs I usually go for.

Anyone have experience with the Type X? I flaked out on the Type R, and ordered the Type X 1242... try this sucker out.

What I am wondering is... 2.3cuft ported to 30hz, is this box going to work, or am I at square #1 again? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

It'll work. Don't know how it'll sound, but it'll work.

Blue Doritos would kick ass if they tasted like over seasoned sour cream and onion. =)

So much for the forum boner! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/hilarious.gif.02a037aad04aa96f19982b298a3d70a8.gif
Sorry to hear, but maybe you were just expecting too much out of the woofer? I really don't care what the hype says, there are limits to a $100 woofer. Sure, it's well built, but there are compromises in that design for the sake of cost. The high power you sent to it along with the lesser excursion of 50hz (less airflow?) could have overloaded it.

I agree

thats about the perfect box for the X.. it wants slightly smaller for the best SQ, but 2.3 will still sound great.

Louder? no //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

you can blow a sub easyer underpowering it than over powering it still possible either waybut underpowering is definetly the worst
Found out where the MOST LIKELY place this DUMBASS misconception came from...

Circuity City's Roadshop online training program. It was part of one of the lessons, had a quiz at the end...asked "Which is worse for a subwoofer, underpowering or overpowering?" I obviously answered overpowering...but of course...I was wrong //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

Looks like I called this one correctly and OP hasn't been back to post any glowing reviews either.
