Indeed.

I pick 40 18's below window line

You gotta find out what space you have and are willing to give up

If you want a 4th or 6th order that will determine what will fit

Or if you have 10cf that can help narrow drivers

Words of wisdom in the sense that it would make more sense to go with the build that fits best then equipment according to box/build after.

Well not necessarily hispls.....i did double layers all the way around....4 layer baffle because i ran out of wood, and i dont have to do two ports i just said two because i was thinking more port area the better, and i figured two would be ok only because I'm doing rectangular ports instead of circular I've only got about 9 inches wide and about 15 tall on each side

Why is one port better than two if the two equals the same port area as one big port? And they both would be slot ported. And by taking out my interior i gained 4 inches in width and i cut my headliner right after the wall starts so it still looks good past the wall lol.....only because i accidentally cut it when i was trimming up a couple pieces of the bracing...so i said fuc k it. I gained a couple more inches in height. And i kept the samme depth. But somehow it moved on me which screwed up how much room between the back seat and the subs....so the passengers will have to be a little cramped now. Oh and i dont remember if i had mentioned this or not cause this thread became way longer than what i thought lol...anyways, the port issue isn't a huge concern for me because yes i absolutely want to be as loud as i can possibly get with what im running, but I'm not competing and i dont plan on it. But I will be ordering one of the spl labs meters so i can finally meter and see what numbers i get. But yeah this is just for music daily. I've always been to nervous and scared to go to competitions. So if two ports makes me lose .4 on the mic that's perfectly fine. Just as long as I'm right around 155 and i can hairtrick I'm cool with that.

Why is one port better than two ...
Many reasons not the least of which is that a good bit of area, mostly in the corners, is dead so you lose effective port area. Also assuming everything isn't 100# symmetrical they won't be working in sympathy, and if they're spaced apart you have another point source for sound which can lead to phasing issues.

That said, do what you like, but you will have flexing problems and it'll be a crap-shoot if your ports work.

So i was at the point of giving up and just doing two ports and i was sitting in my trunk sweating my *** off and i thought....fiberglass the hard corners....which will give me every bit of space that i was needing.....and i can just use cotton material to replace the fiberglass mat. Except for the first layer. And i can get the mat for free. And i know it wont take more than a gallon of resin to do all of it.....and that way ill be able to have one on the bottom, one on the side, and one up top and then I'll be able to do a huge port with no problem

The mat is what you want for strength. The fabric is what you use for making the shapes. Also. Not meaning this in a mean or bad way but if a wood box is giving you this much trouble a fiberglassed wall is going to be wayyyy harder and more time consuming. If your down to spend the time doing it right it could work but it's something your not doing in a day or two.

Gotcha....its only giving me this much trouble because of the curves in my car and i cant see all the angles when i look at the area....but i don't think I'm going to use the fiberglass.

actually i never dealt with fiberglass ever before and I was sealing up my wall with fiberglass. was VERY easy.

some 3m 90, staple gun and fleece from walmart and lot of cheap paint brushes and matt to build up layers. staple gun and 3m 90 adhesive makes things extremely easy. You can staple it directly to the wood and plastic panels As for the top roof, i'd recommend putting wood and some PL 8x to make a piece stick up there so you can staple gun the fleece up there as well.

ITs A LOT easier than you would expect man. Go for it. Just the sanding part is a b*Tch if you want to make it look pretty.

Done right, the fleece is already pretty strong by itself after it dries.. But more layers of mat are always good. Just make sure you use enough hardener so you dont waste your time waiting for it to dry. That was my mistake i ran into. Still finished within a day.

Also you dont need to have the biggest port. My buddy shrank his port area down very very low and gained both bandwidth and DBs and more hair tricking capabilities.

hence why i told you to cover one of your ports in the first build.... but nope just demo everything before any type of testing.

It's giving you trouble because you insist on making 3 subs fit where you really don't have room to do it properly. To add insult to injury, you're rushing and half arsing things.

For the money you're going to waste when this is a failure and you're rebuilding again, you could just do it right and work on selling/trading your subs into something that will handle your power better.

I understand....your right i am rushing. Its because i dont want to drag it out for a month. And because my girlfriend gets pissed because that's all ive been doing the past week. So we haven't really done anything else lol. And I'm anxious to hear them

And i just spent almost $1000 on them so i want to try to make them fit

As much as your ready to get playing take your time, plan it out and don't rush it. All the time you spent redoing evrerything and the money spent you could've had it finished. Also take some time and take that girl out to dinner. Keep her happy and she won't complain about the system.

You seem to be getting the general idea on what and what not to do. Get a solid build plan and take your time and enjoy the build. When the walls done give her something shiny to look at like fuzzy carpet on the wall/box and she will go from hating it to thinking its "pretty" or something lol. even tho she's a girlfriend happy wife happy life comes into play.

The 'wall' you have is the problem. The ports look like they're barely hanging on...the build is sloppy, wrong wood, screws everywhere. What happened to taking pride in your work? This is so bad I would hesitate to even post pics of it...

Hope I'm not hurting your feelings, but just wow...

Hmm wrong wood you say? What wood she he use then?..

Also he has no port yet since he has rebuilt the wall..

Does it matter if he has a million screws compared to just 100 screws?

Let's see your wall since you know how to build a perfect wall.
