The CONS of a good system

Here's my opinion, in my car I can listen to the same song @224kb on my ipod and on an audio cd back to back, and there is no comparison, the audio cd owns it. It is so much cleaner sounding it's not even close. I have not tried Lame, though I probably will. I just think the ipod is a great way to have a never-ending cd changer, but if you want serious sound quality an audio cd is the only choice. Besides, we spend all this money on high end decks that have expensive 24bit D/A converters and such in the cd section, why bypass all that? I just think it sounds better to use the audio cd.

I agree with some of the guys above, a major con of a good system is it ruins you for just about any stock system. My wife doesn't care, but her element is gettin som serious gear soon because the stereo ,which is freeking good for a factory stereo, needs help. Forrtunately I've got some nice comps to go up in there and a different sub driver... The real bummer is, I'll replace all this, and she won't even notice I bet.

I usually rip the cd's i do buy at "loseless" but even then i have to agree with bikejunkie, the difference is night and day between cd's and mp3's

perhaps its just something in my head.. but

Problem is, a lot of the songs I listen to are too hard to find on a cd, or just havent been released //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

my biggest problem is I just cant listen to one album. I have to have different songs. So what I'm starting to do with EAC is is RIP directly from the CD make my own CD with different songs and then burn them back. I never go to a mp3 conversion. So far the results have been good.

This is a great thread guys. Very interesting and it should be a must for everyone should read. So EAC will basically fix alot of cds that has been scratched and turn the quality into better and cleaner quality? What's the best quality to convert to? 192?

mp3's do not ****, its just that most of you get your mp3's from kazaa and other p2p's where most simple minded people simply rip their cd's with itunes at the standard 128 kbps.

check out that site, basically their are different mp3 rippers out there that can sound just like cd's, the way they work is with very intricate variable bitrates and a massive input from the public. I have just started ripping using the famed LAME (alt preset standard) and exact audio copy (EAC) and the results have been amazing. Try it out.
Exact Audio Copy and LAME are the only way to do MP3s

Encoding to the "APS Standard" will get you an MP3 that sounds the same as the CD. Will there be some loss, sure but you will not be able to hear it.

Thats interesting you say that. I am thinking its because Ipods just sound bad to begin with, especially with the stock ear buds (bleh //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/redface.gif.62fdbfe1a101588a808c4cff71bcb942.gif )

But yeah, like ayrton said, eac and lame are wonderful. There has been tons of work being put into these programs, lots of user input.
