The CONS of a good system

Been using LAME for quite some time. Hell, I've been using LAME since the 486 days. It's the only good ripper I like (even compared to EAC).
LAME is an encoder, eac is a ripper. LAME can be synced up to eac which is what I do, so basically it rips to wav, then lame encodes the wav to mp3, and eac trashes the wav file. I love eac because of the cd error correction, my old scratched cd's sound like new after eac is done with them, incredible stuff. The only problem is its hard to set everything up. My link helped me quite a bit.

Alright I used EAC with LAME and so far its great. I really dont need LAME as I dont care to convert to MP3. I used EAC to RIP CD to WAV and then reburned my own mix songs on a CD.

i will have to keep listening to my mp3's becaue 80% of my tracks i could never find a place to buy an actual album, or they were never put to album.

what components are you using?

just use the EAC to rip the file from the disc, and then use LAME to burn at the highest bitrate... thats what i do and its solved ALOT of the problems "downloaded" mp3's have... the difference in quality is enormous, but this is assuming you have the origional source media :'(

yeah that of course will yield the best results, but unfortunently, if you like to store your music, wav's are enormous files compared to mp3's. Loseless is something you guys might want to check out, true cd quality with half the space. Unlike mp3's, loseless compresses the file, just like a zip file, and when you expand it, voila, full quality. Unfortunently, I dont know many sources that can play loseless (ipod can though).

This kind of has me interested in getting some sort of hard drive storage system in my car, that would be sweet.

I've done some testing with mp3 bitrates. I wasn't able to consistently pick the sound quality difference in any song >= 192kbs, that's including the wav. A 320k encoded song will run 9-10 megabytes. A song encoded in FLAC will run 26 ish and the wav will be around 40. Lossless compression is pretty cool, but it's not especially useful when you consider a cd will run 300 megs or so. Mp3 probably isn't the be all end all of audio compression codecs but it does a very good job if done correctly and the songs are of a very reasonable size.

Oh no doubt, but I'm talking strictly car audio here. But for storing yes I will use LAME and convert to MP3.

Cons of a good system?I can't stand listen to most other peoples car stereos.

Everything seems lacking. It sucks.
I cant stand sitting in my friends' cars with their stock systems. They'll be having a conversation with me and I'll think to myself, "damm, these speakers sound like shit."

I don't want to say anything cause I know I'll come off as a prick, but the shit just bugs the hell outta me. I borrowed my dad's car a month or two ago and I just turned that shit off... HORRIBLE!
