The big 3 just don't get it, nobody wants American cars.

They don't make 80k a year //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif
I know but what im gettin at is that they are overly payed for the job they do. We could get away with that in the past but now it has taken a toll on the economy big time.

If you let them go a million people lose jobs nationwide. I'm sorry but I don't see a scenario where a million jobs lost is helpful.
A million people wouldn't lose their jobs. just like Wamu just got bought out, people didn't lose their jobs. The management is having a shake up and there most definately will be cuts, I am sure, but if that is what it take to make them profitable, and they can function without those people. So be it.

As for GM, if they got bought out for $0.05 on the dollar, the now owners would most definately, keep production going, because the free market dictates that GM trucks are wanted by the public. Where are these trucks going to come from?

They lost ground on the Asians and factories are only running at 80% capacity. They have more employees then they need.

The cash wage the employee gets is a fair wage. It's the other things on the income statement that is put on their backs.

If GM goes out of business, there are going to be one million jobs effected. When they went on strike, the economic job growth decreased a full percentage just by the GM strike for that quarter.

No, i don't mind people buying foreign cars, but people don't even think for a second what it is doing to the companies here. We'll never be able to stop people from buying what they want so WTF.
I'm getting so sick of seeing stupid honda civics everywhere too, like there that ******* good? Why not spend that money on a mustang, much better car. Anybody ever heard of a pontiac, i heard there making good cars now.
if you're so hung up on buying everything American made then i suggest you take a look at your sig and change out your car audio equipment.

Do you think the Unions prevent the Big 3 from having a more flexible policy? This is why the govt outsources much of it's work...so when times are good, they hire; when times are bad they fire.

That's bullshit. You may be able to buffalo these other folks, but not me. I'd like to see your source for that malarky, and you better believe I will email/write them a letter for their work. They may have occurred simultaneously, but I bet you a dollar to a dime that I kind find evidence of economic job growth during a year in which GM or a subsidary went on strike. Proving causation is no easy matter.

I don't think Gettlefinger is willing to work with the big 3. If they were allowed to cut jobs at will, then the UAW would have no leverage. The UAW is going to have to trim some fat somewhere.

What will he do if they all declare bankruptcy? What will he do if management and shareholders walk away? He will have zero power then.

It varies. The lower seniority workers get $14 an hour and reduced benefits.
$14 an hour, that is stupid money for someone who simply screws in the same screws on the same part day in and day out. Dude, my father has been in construction hi entire life, and is scrounging for a job at Home Depot for $7/hr.

I really gets under my skin to see all hoopla, over the auto and financial industry, when the construction industry has (not may) sustained the level of layoffs, closings that these others are fearing. **** it up. Shit sucks, get off your fat *** and get into the trenches like the rest of us. We are dealing with it, why can't you? America is resilient, and we will bounce back. Why we feel the need to sell our souls for a quick fix is beyond me. Hell the Great Depression only lasted 2 years. how long will it take me, or for that matter my children to pay back the $700,000,000,000 ( count the zeros, it is a bunch of them!) it is going to take to see (not definate) if we can avoid a financial meltdown.

That's more or less false. Even after the depression, we suffered numerous severe recessions. It wasn't like two years after the stock market crashed then good times where had by all.

. Directly or indirectly, it supports nearly 900,000 jobs -- everyone from auto-parts workers to advertising writers, car salespeople, and office-supply vendors. When GM shut down for 54 days during a 1998 labor action, it knocked a full percentage point off the U.S. economic growth rate that quarter. So what's bad for General Motors is still, undeniably, bad for America.

Let me know how your email goes.

Take the job for lower pay, or lose your job, that goes from the bottom to the top. If you dont produce you lose your job, that goes from the top to the bottom. I didn't get GM in this mess, I don't think I nor my children should have to bail them out!
