The big 3 just don't get it, nobody wants American cars.

Some economists claim because we did not pump money into the economy, it exacerbated the Great Depression.
speculation. are you willing to bet $ 700,000,000,000 on speculation.

Why are all eyes truned to the few big companies that have screwed up? what about all the small guys that in total make up a much larger part of the economy than the few that have been focused on. Why has it not been suggested making loans available to small business for a decent intrest rate, insured by the government through the private sector. That IMO would stabilize the ecomomy much quicker than trickle down, and would keep a much larger portion of americans out of the lunch lines. Hell, if I had access to a low intrest loan, I could keep the 7 guys I have now on for much longer. Without working capitol they are toast in less than 2 weeks unless something breaks, (which is highly unlikely) How may of me do you think there are out there?

lift assist machines are all over the new plants that GM utilizes. You don't lift the radiator on your own, the entire core support is assembled on a different line, and then mated with the chassis later on. They have lifts for glass, I had to use a lift to get the main body wiring harness out of the heater. Tossing those 40lb *****es around all day was definitely fun haha.

Well apparently Ford and the UAW aren't as nice as Nissan because my dad had to manually lift the radiator.
They aren't that heavy...prolly weigh less than 20 lbs.

Doing it over and over again for 8 hours would be hard on your body though. At least those M&A anaylsts I mentioned earlier can do cocaine to remain productive.

Car comes down the line, you have to pick up the radiator assembly yourself, mount it to the car, attach the lines, in roughly 30 seconds, then it's on to the next one. My dad explained it much better.
As compared to climbing up a ladder 30ft in the air with 60lbs of shingles on your shoulder, to walk on an 8:12 pitch roof, then nail off 10 SQ of shingles in 8hrs after that, go home and do it agian, for $10.

HMMMMM, yep it sound tough.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

I didn't support either bailout, although I did make some nice money off the AIG bailout.

I feel sorry for your cause, I do, but you can't hire a lobbyist.

Why would they have to lift them on the shoulders? Even slave wetback labor in my neighborhood has a pully system cradled over the house.

Assembly line work is not easy. My dad is physically handicapped from working on the line. He cannot lift his arms above his shoulders, he can't stand longer then 10 minutes anymore from all the squatting and using his legs to lift. He hired into Ford's in 1973 so this was before they had the machinery they have now. I sure as hell would not would not work on the line for $15 an hour. I'll pass.

You should come to Michigan because roofers get way more then $10 an hour.

Maybe GM will use that money to redesign how they build cars.

I was in no way doubting the work that your father did being difficult. I worked on a general motors assembly line no more than a month ago. i was only pointing out that things have changed. while the work is still difficult, you don't have to work quite as hard. Unless of course you're lugging around main body wiring harnesses like i said.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/veryhappy.gif.fec4fed33b4a1279cf10bdd45a039dae.gif

until you have no food on the table and gas in the car. I guess you have never actually had it rough enough. I feel for your father, I really do. But his labor doesn't give you or anyone else a free pass.
