The big 3 just don't get it, nobody wants American cars.

No, i don't mind people buying foreign cars, but people don't even think for a second what it is doing to the companies here. We'll never be able to stop people from buying what they want so WTF.
I'm getting so sick of seeing stupid honda civics everywhere too, like there that ******* good? Why not spend that money on a mustang, much better car.
While I agree with you, you cannot really haul around a family in a mustang like you can a 4 door civic.

Apparently someone does
"General Motors Corp., Ford Motor Co. and Chrysler LLC sold 8.5 million vehicles in the United States last year and millions more around the world. GM outsold Toyota by about 1.2 million vehicles in the United States last year and holds a U.S. lead over Toyota of about 560,000 so far this year. Globally, GM in 2007 remained the world's largest automaker, selling 9,369,524 vehicles worldwide -- about 3,000 more than Toyota.

Ford outsold Honda by about 850,000 and Nissan by more than 1.3 million vehicles in the United States last year.

Chrysler sold more vehicles here than Nissan and Hyundai combined in 2007 and so far this year."

Does that include municipals and government orders, if so that is not a fair comparison in my opinion. Why don't the police ride in Honda Accords, or Toyota Camerys? Is it because they are not American made. What is American made? fords that are put together in Mexico? or Nissan that is put together here in the good old USA?

I hate to see the American car go by the wayside, but Detroit sold us out a long time ago. buy getting parts and labor from abroad.

GM and Ford have a very strong presence in China.
I was talking to the Chinamen who sold my laptop and he said they are growing in China. He wanted me to go to China with him because they have a shortage of mechanics //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

A Mustang and a Civic are filling two drastically different requirements; it's an apples-to-oranges comparison without mentioning any of the purchaser's needs.

I'm kind of sick of seeing Ipods around, too, but what does that mean? It means that company has stumbled across something that fills a need in such a way that a ton of people want to have it, because they have that need too.

I think that there are plenty of american cars comparabe to other offerings. That is not the problem.

The problem is with the management of the automakers. I personally have seen this coming for awhile. The way that these corporations ahve been run have put them where they are today. It has absolutely nothing to do with the quality of the vehicles. I beleive that GM is still #1 in the world. They just have a huge deficit. But thats just my 2 cents.

Will the buyout change the corporate culture of the Big 3?

I wasn't trying to compare them, at the end of the day nothing will change so i'm not to worried about it. I think GM is #1 in the world still anyway

The culture is already changing. They are trying to slash costs and the union totally gave in on the new hire pay and benefits. They want to peddle the health care costs onto the UAW. I wouldn't be surprised if they open the contract and cut wages.

I highly doubt it unfortunately. They will continue to be poorly run and spiral downward until drastic changes are made. GM is in a huge hole right now and its gonna take alot to bring them back to where they are making money instead of losing it. As for the other companies they are not as bad off as GM but they could still use a change in the infrastructure of there companies.

I see the buyout as a bandaid to a much bigger problem at this point.
