Testing a sub i thought could of been damaged question

Ive got these subs for sale right now and i know for a fact one of them is perfectly ok. the other one was in my system a few weeks ago when i had an unknown problem which caused all my speakers to make a horrible whine and thump which in turn blew my comps.

my question is i just tested my sub on an amp to make sure it worked. the sub is 500 rms the channel i was testing it on couldnt of been more than 80 watts. the sub moved in and out, played but every couple seconds made a small clapping sound.

the sub wasnt in a box just literally sitting next to the amp free air. is the sub ok since it powers up and the cone moves or is that clapping sound every 10 or so seconds a sign of damage? the channel i was running the sub on was crossed over at 50hz-100hz

Take a 9v battery to it. If theres noise, the sub is not ok.

so if it does nothing the sub is ok? or will it do something

it will stick out or **** in depending on which way u have the wires....

not 100% sure if this is good indication of a bad woofage tho

like i said before i hooked it up to an amp and it worked just fine just every ten seconds or so i heard a small clap. could that of just been because it was ran free air? is a 9 volt battery really enough to move a cone on a sub?

Yeah itll move, depending on the sub most likely not very much but enough to notice and see. If it makes a noise when it moves, then its got issues. You can also push on the cone and listen or feel for the VC scraping or rubbing on anything.

The clap could be anything, something from the amp, the sub bottoming out, or abnormal mechanical noise.
