Testing 15" Nightshade SPL

Nightshades have always been available in 12s.

We have drifted into the "Monster" sub prototype testing here at the last few pages here //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

"Monster" testing continued - again, this is not the Nightshade any more - it is a prototype we have been working on //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Best we could get with two amps and a charge all night long on the batteries. We hit 154.8 several times the night before but only did this score once with a FULL charge.

Tried four amps:

* Three amps back here, one under the other on the rack.

* Wire mess of epic proportions

We did NOT gain from four amps. The amps were at double the impedance of before and I know my battery bank is not enough for all four... BUT I think the sub just completely ran out of excursion, it is MOVING. We did not damage the sub at all with four full volume burps on four amps, though //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

For those that don't know what this prototype is, you can catch up here:

Stock 15" D2 Nightshade - Short Coil, Stock Cooling, 3 spiders
Power = 2x SAZ-3000Ds strapped @ 1 ohm (internal strapping)

I matched my best score with the "Monster" design prototype with the stock Nightshade.

This confirms my theory that the Monster design *NEEDED* a ton of power to get loud so we will continue work on the Monster design to increase efficiency AND power handling. Of course... the Monster would take this sort of power continuously and the stock Nightshade for burps only - so it is not quite apples to apples!

I tried turning up the head unit more but did not gain any more SPL - just got the sub hotter!

For those that may not be familiar with my box:

* This is before I moved it to the left and went to three batteries on the right, but you can get the idea of the enclosure.

Fun times //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
Re-built a Nightshade with a bit different spider setup and a bit different coil setup (a little longer) and made a new high score:

A little bit has changed since before too:

Box is on the other side (not any louder, but made for easy mounting of the amp you see to the left). And I added those PVC pieces.

Thanks //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
I have a dual 15" box almost done as well.

Hope to have that ready soon. If the result is good enough I may even enter the Jeep @ SBN.
you know what my wall is waiting for.... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif:crazy:
