Tahoe finally getting fixed

the mechanic who was gna do it didn't have the time or help, he cant do it physically its to big of a job hes been our mechanic before I was even born. very honest guy and very up front, then he recommended me to his friend who he trusts to do the job. the engine blew a head gasket, it had 215k miles and it was poorly maintained. it was my fault that it went out. I never raced it, never abused the motor other than making the stupid decision to not buy a new radiator in time. maybe here and there when it rained id gun it from a stop and take off fish tailing, give the eaton g80 a good workout. anyway they said its gna cost more than the value of the Tahoe itself to fix, I told the mechanic I don't even wanna risk fixing the stock motor and having something go bad later on. I wanted a rebuilt engine. he got the rebuilt motor from his supplier he needed the vin number so they can find the perfect match. 5.7 vortec 4 bolt, 350 small block. I was at the shop earlier today and took a look at it, the motors is all black its looks fkn clean. everything that it needs I told the guy to replace also, only with AC delco parts. it should be on my drive way by tmrw morning. he just needs to run it a bit and observe it for a few hours before releasing it, im gna be taking it back to him every so thousand miles for a fallow up to make sure everything is in working order.

So it needed an engine rebuild and one mechanice couldn't do it or too big of a job? That's not a mechanic then. There's plenty of younger people that would love to do that.....because that's what they do.
So how did the engine go bad?

yep

LOL Poverty thread.

my build took a turn, complete 180 im building a standard ported box gna drop it in the cargo of my Tahoe as soon as it gets here. the box is already almost done just need to do the cut outs and add 45s and some bracing. lots of bracing! gna test the waters and see how it sounds and if I wanna get louder then ill jump into the b-pillar. my Tahoe is a z71 and I take it to the dunes occasionally and I wanna be able to see whats behind me and all that. besides if I do a wall on the b-pillar its gna be in my suburban. as for the box im building for my tahoe im using 5 ply birch dual sheets all around and 3 on the top. it should be pretty sturdy, its not 11 or 13 ply but ill make it work. picked up 7 sheets for 250 exactly I though ehh why not. now when I start the wall only then will I invest in some real wood. 11 ply

Sweet. Holla at me if u got any questions about your build. I've been playing with 4 18s for awhile now and have a pretty good idea what works and what doesn't, lots of trial and error lol

GM engines will run 500k miles no problem if properly maintained and the known bad parts get replaced over time...
oh and if you dont have the AFM engines, lol those **** engines throw rods and **** because they're so complicated from the AFM

tons and tons of information about this on GM forums, silveradosierra being one that has a lot of info
What GM engine last 500k? I've seen very few vehicles in that mileage range, the majority of which has been Toyotas. Our old '88 Toyota had 450k on it when we sold it. Body rusted out around the motor, but it ran beautifully. My Tundra has 251k all original and it runs like the day it was bought.

But in most cases, if you treat it right, most engines will last 200k usually 300k nowadays. Believe it or not I have a family friend who has an old Camry with 1.2 million on it before it **** out on them. That's clearly 1 in a billion chance, but can happen.

the ones very well maintained, there's a reason why most GM engines dont last to 500k. humans - well actually its usually cost for proper maintenance

I have had 5 different 4 18 boxes in my 2002 z71 tohoe and I can tell u what was the loudest. Sub up port back. Box was about 18cubes with 200" of port tuned to 34hz... Donot and I repeat do not build the box over 22" tall.

the box is 26 inches tall and before you say anything, im running havocs they require 6 cubes net or more and that was the highest i can go if it gets any higher than that its gna be hard to see through my rear view mirror, plus im tuned at 28hz so thats another reason why the box is taking up so much space, my port alone is like 4 cubes or was it 4 or 6.. cant remember but yeah its 320" of port. however i am doing subs up port back, the port is gna be about 5 or 6 inches away from the hatch. and for those who are asking for pics of the motor i will post some soon. its nice and glossy
