I tried to post this awhile back but thats when it wouldnt let me post so im doing it again

Ok my friend just got his system installed and we have no idea what is wrong with it but it sounds terrible and getting no where near the output in should it sounds like a couple stock 6x9's or something.

He has these subs and this amp

They are in a sealed box made for the subs in a extended cab truck.

I need to know whats wrong maybe his subs are wired wrong something like that any help is appreciated.

Is the gain set properly? That amp is only 300w RMS, and he has two of those subwoofers? That is not much power at all, and in a sealed enclosure I wouldnt expect much output. I would reccomend trying a ported enclosure and possibly upgrading the amplifier.

Yea the gain is set, i know you wont get much output from a sealed enclosure but he told me he had this system in a diffrent truck before and it sounded nice and then he had it hooked up in his new truck and its not the same somethings wrong i believe

Well those subs are 200 rms and the amp sends 300 rms to each one that should be perfect i would think right?

not sure if he has the room for ported

Bad ground... bad connections anywhere...

Subs wired in a funny series (16 ohms or 8 ohms) that kills the output of the amp?

Subs not broken in? RF tends to have stiff suspensions (maybe?), if he's got a sealed box he may need more power to get them moving to break them in.

Subs are broken in,check all connections except ground, and i have not checked the subs wiring cause i have not had the chance right now i think it either

a. subs wired wrong

or

b. that amp is mono so subs arent even getting reccomended rms if you tell me thats true then that has got to be the problem

They should still play- RF is usually inefficient- like 86db efficiency or what have you, but you should still get somewhat of a thing resembling normal output. Check the impedance of your subs by putting the ohm reader on the wire to the amp with your electronic meter gadget (DMM). Let us know //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif ! (you prolly know this... Just in case you know.)

it could be in the enclosure design too. ext cab trucks are very sensitive to make them really sound good. it sounds like more of a settings problem that enclosure, but it is amazing what a properly constructed box sounds like.

And if the amp isnt giving RMS cant i just wire it to one sub and give the sub 300 watts?

Im thinkin thats what it is his amp is mono and subs are 4ohm so his amp is like 300x1 and hes got that wired to 2 subs so hes gettin like 150 RMS to each sub correct?
