System not performing

Ok, my system is vastly underperforming. When I say underperforming I am speaking of the subwoofers particularly. When playing music with heavy base, it is quite weak. When playing music with "normal" base notes the subs are hardly noticeable. I addition, when the radio is turned up to higher volumes, (30 of a maximum 40) mid range and tweets increase and subs fade. I will list below my set up. Please throw ideas out for me to try. Thank you all in advance for your help!

2007 Dodge Charger SRT-8

Pioneer AVH-X2700BS Head Unit

2 Sundown Audio Sa 12's Dual 4ohm wired to 1 ohm

Hifonics BRX-2000.1D (1 ohm stable)

Zenclosures Sealed Box w/ Pollyfill (which is on the smaller size) that has 1.09 cubes after displacement. (Sundown minimum for sealed enclosures was 1 cube)

0 Gauge Power and Ground

4 Gauge to amp after distribution block

RCA Signal from head unit to amp

14 gauge speaker wire amp to subs

Thanks again!!

is the box one of these?

Custom Sub Enclosure | Affordable Sub Box

get an RCA to Auxiliary, plug it into the amp and play the songs again and see if there is a difference in the bass response and if your problems still persist. If it sounds better than its something with the head unit/ head unit settings. Make sure to adjust your gain since phone signals are much weaker than head unit signals.

If its not the head unit then its either the amp or the enclosure/enclosure position or the wiring.

The box is waay too far from the trunk lid to get any real output, it needs to load properly. Sundowns need ported for maximum performance. As for the subs fading, check your grounds and redo them again. Get a digital multi-meter and check your voltages while the system is on. IT could also be your electrical system not being able to handle 2000 watts.

Yes, it is one of those enclosures. You think the enclosure size and position is most likely my issue? I will check the voltage as you suggested. I have checked the wiring to make sure all is at 1ohm. I even double checked the speakers to make sure they were dual 4 ohm. I am not following what you are suggesting with the "RCA to Auxiliary". Can you help me understand that? Thank you for taking the time to reply!

I did not say enclosure size i'm saying enclosure TYPE. Sundowns only reach true potential in a ported box. You are just pigeonholing yourself out of output and sound quality by going with a sealed box with these woofers.

The RCA to auxiliary is this.

Plug your phone straight to your sub amp's RCAs and play music with a signal comming from your phone or any music player to make sure its not the head unit causing the problems.

DONT forget about the ground. Use the multi-meter and measure resistance in ohms at the ground. If there is too much you might need to change grounding locations. Make sure the paint is sanded down to bare metal.

Ahhhh. Got it. Will do today. Planning on building a ported enclosure this upcoming weekend. Searching for designs as we speak. Thanks again!

You need a ported box,

Also you will not see more than 800 watts RMS clean in this vehicle on stock electrical. You need an upgraded AGM battery In The stock location in the trunk, a northstar agm34 will allow you to get the power out of the amp.

Also to help sustain a more steady voltage you will need to do the big 3, the big 3 in this car is literally a 17 foot power run from the positive alternator stud under the hood to the rear battery in the floor then along with the typical 2 grounds . The stock 6ga wire running back to your starter battery cannot sustain voltage well under a high amperage draw and deliver the power needed to assist in more power output.

And go with a properly build ported box, and you'll be flexin

sometimes its the vehicle's ECU messing with how the alts charging too with the newer cars.

Ok, saying that I'm building the enclosure this weekend but I can't do everything you suggested right now, what is the order of importance? Big 3, primary battery, secondary battery? Thanks.

That sounds like an RCA going out or a loose connection but I'm no expert.

In order of importance it would be primary battery then big 3 then second battery but really a bigger alt will do a lot more than a second battery.
