Y'all really want to give me some grief? Let me tell you the master plan, then you can lite into me accordingly. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
Objective: Better gas mileage.
Those three amps, all class A (car version, anyway), are tremendously inefficient, meaning they draw a lot of current a lot of the time. That means a lot of resistance at the alt, right? Consequently, reduced HP & MPG. No idea how much, that's just the theory.
Plus they get hot enough to cook on & require forced air in the summer, which sounds obnoxious.
The new generation of D class amps are hyper-efficient & sub-artic in operation. I was hoping to capitalize on those qualities & recreate the warmth of the old SS's thru creative EQ'ing and crossover use.
Didn't work. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif
The class-A warmth issue aside, the D class main amp sounded, uh,
digital.
For those that remember when CD's first came out, remember how much more "real" a good turntable setup sounded vs a CD player? It was like that. The new amp just didn't sound musical like the SS's.
Don't get me wrong, there was tons of clean power. Just not the same. Plus it was soft in the midbass in a strange way that I couldn't really EQ out.
Given that I was ultimately sacrificing SQ for MPG, you may commence with the flaming. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif
