Has anyone had this problem w/ UPS?

I sent a buyer from eBay a package the other day. It was marked delivered and they said they left it on the front porch. Unfortunately the guy was outta town, even though he knew when the package would arrive. He e-mails me 2day and the package was gone. So I had to file a tracking investigation w/ UPS. My worries are that he is gonna want a refund of some type from me. Just wondering if guys thought that this could fall back on me, and cost me money? The way I see it, everything was done right on my part. I'm thinking that I shouldn't have anything to worry about, but still I'm a little anxious to find out what happens.

First off, if he told you he was going to be out of town, why did you ship it? Just wait a day or two OR require delivery confirmation? It could have been stolen, too...

They can only leave a package on the front door step if it's a house or condo and you have to specify no signature required. If it was an apartment, UPS is in the wrong. It still takes 2-3 weeks for UPS to finalize the claim though and refund you the money. Yes, the buyer is going to want a refund. It's up to you when he get's it though. In my honest opinion, you should refund him right away since you did not specify signature delivery.

He didn't tell me he was gonna be out of town, or I wouldn't have shipped it...dumbass. He knew it was coming, and decided to leave to visit his parents for the night. All the packages I've got from UPS have never required a signature. They never gave me an option at the UPS store to get delivery confirmation, so I never think about it. UPS automatically covers up to $100 (he payed $189), so hopefully he won't blame me for this. He knew it was shipped on the 23rd so he could have planned on being home or had a neighbor to watch for it.

I didn't specify "no signature required", but didn't think about asking for it either. Looked over the shipping info I filled out and the option wasn't there.

Did you not purchase $200 insurance? That was pretty dumb if ya didnt //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif. If you didnt purchase the extra insurance....then you're gonna have to cover the other 89 bucks.

He didn't purchase the extra insurance. It was an eBay auction, and he had the option to.
if you gave the option for insurance and the buyer declined....its his fault. Going through UPS, you should have a tracking number for proof of delivery...thats all you need. However, that doesnt mean they can't/won't leave neg feedback. This is why I always figure insurance into my shipping prices. I never make it an option.

That is one of the main reasons I use the postal service and add delivery confirmation with my packages. With delivery confirmation they will not deliver without a signature and usually only cost an extra $.60

Yea its funny, all the cheaper stuff I buy thats shipped USPS, and I have to either go pick it up at the post office or call and tell them to leave it at my house. The things that are a couple hundred dollars that UPS brings are always sitting on my porch when I get home.

Yea prices are usually a little cheaper or just the same as fed ex and ups. Even with paying the extra $.60 for the delivery conf. I prefer to use the post office I just think much more dependable. Used fed ex and ups when I had my business and had many problems with them but I can honestly say I never had a problem with postal service. Sometimes usps may be a little slower but it gets there in one piece and to the right person/place.

I live at a apartment complex and you don't have any idea how many times we get complaints here about ups and fed ex because things are left and stolen. I'm the courtesy officer here and I get at least one complaint from them every week or two. Sometimes it's left at the wrong apt. even wrong building it really is amazing

Well just got this e-mail response from the buyer.

"I know and understand that this has absolutely nothing

to do with you. Do not worry about my thoughts about

your honesty and integrity, I believe that your

character is of the highest rank of people I have

dealt with on eBay. Even if this comes down to an

insurance payout from UPS, you will be getting

positive feedback because you have communicated very

well and have been very easy to work with in this

transaction.

Also, I am a very patient man, I can wait a week or

two to find out what is going on here. It is now 10PM

in Denver and I do not want to go to my neighbor's

house to ask if they picked up the box. They might

have if they saw it was a dell box. I live in a small

town home community, and my neighbor and I watch out

for each other on stuff like this."

Luckily looks like I'm not gonna have to worry about the item any longer. Of course he will get his check from UPS is it was stolen. I'm so relieved.
