System for a budget of $400?

I have a budget of about $400 for an amp and sub(s), and I'd like everyone's advice. My friend offered to make a box for me pretty cheap, so I'll probably get him to do that.

I'm mostly concerned about how hard the bass hits. Space isn't really an issue either.
