System for $400-$500

First off I'd like to say this is my first post, and if I'm in the wrong sub-forum i apologize. Now, to my question: I am soon to get my first car, and am looking to buy a system also at the same time. My budget is the same as title and I was previously looking at the Kicker 10DCVR122, which are around $400 for the matching subwoofers & enclosure. Adding an amp would go a little over my budget but I could make it happen somehow. But just a few minutes ago i started reading how kickers are the mainstream rip off (similiar to an apple vs mobile market setting) and i could get subs, an amp, and an aftermarket head unit all for around my budget that was higher quality. I came here for a confirmation to that and maybe some ideas. i also have never hooked up a system but i have many friends that have set up systems around me, and that would volunteer to help so "user-friendliness" could help if that's a real variable.

a system is VERY easy to hook up, there are tutorials on here about it, i can like them to you if you want..

Kickers subs, and speakers, are all relatively trash, and MUCH better can be had for the money. They however do make pretty decent amplifiers, they do above rated power, pretty efficient, etc

The budget is for Subs and an amp. If i can fit a head unit in there then so be it but i will worry about that last as i have an older head unit a friend didn't want anymore that works with subs.

Get a ascendant audio chaos and Mb quart dcs 1500 and get a 4awg wiring kit. Would work perfectly fine and should be almost exactly 500$ and would be better than those kickers.

P.S. catman had a mbquart dcs, not sure if hes still got it or not. Prolly would give you a good deal if he does....

Thanks for everyones replies and the people who took time to PM me last night but as of now I'm looking at Alpine SWR-12 (Newest 2012 Model) for 249.99 but I'm not sure whether the 2 ohm or 4 ohm choice would be best, as i don't even know what that is lol. The RMS max is 1000w and peak is 3000w (I'm not sure what RMS is but I'm guessing peak is the most power you can push to them) and for an amp I'm looking at a Hifonics Brutus BRZ1200.1D for $159.99. What are your guys's opinions?

Sounds like a good idea but your getting r@ped at $250 for that sub. Their $160 brand new on sonicelectronix.com

I'm not buying them for atleast another month but if the offer is still available i would be glad to take you up on that, also, should i buy two and a smaller 500 watt amp (maybe an ampine or kicker) or should I buy one and a 1000-2000 watt amp. And lastly, should i go for the 2 ohm or 4 ohm version.

Edit: The sub is dual voice coil, so, as i've learned, that would mean 2+2 ohm or 4+4ohm version
