Switch from L7 to a Type X = step back????

type x defintantly is not intended for spl purposes but as stated your sq will make you never wanna get out of your car.
agreed. if u are are looking for output and not so much sq dont make that "upgrade" most of the reason for the los of output is the extreme difference in cone area, not to mention that a type x cant take as much power

i'll agree with you that there will be a loss of cone area but a type X can take just as much as an L7. But to answer the question. I would think it would be an overall upgrade because the type X is great sub, albeit expensive. It would destroy the L7 in the sound quality, and the X can get lowwww

On the mic the L7 would score higher most of the time, but the gain you get with the SQ and perhaps the low end depending on your install may make it much more lovely to the ears with Type X's....it's really going to be install dependant.

If everything were perfect, they would both be loud as fvck, but you would enjoy listening to the Alpine more IMO.

Depends on what matters most to you. Better sq in a smaller space or better spl taking up more space. You could put two type-x's in a very small sealed box and love what you hear. I have one type-x in 1.12cubes and it gets plenty loud but the sq is where it shines. Truly a great sounding sub.
