Swapping out amps

just check out the specs, it looks like the zx1000.1 wants a 100a fuse. I would probably use at least a 4awg. The zx400.1 only wants a 40a fuse. Just make sure you have 100a fuse and maybe a 4awg or even a 2awg. Don't quote me on wire sizing but I personally wouldn't go with anything smaller than a 4awg and I'd probably throw a 2awg in to be safe (cant hurt). But if you have a 4awg in from the 400.1, keep it in see how it works

So tomorrow my kicker zx1000.1 should be here to replace my zx400.1. What do I need to know to ensure I don't wreck anything? How do I figure out if the fuse they installed is going to be alright with the bigger amp?
first off make sure you take the neg off your batt before you do anything with it. then swap amps check fuses and wire size and what not. also if you don't have the big three done you might want to look into it. i'm guess your eletrical system is completely stock? so do the big three and check your voltage and make sure it doesn't drop below 12-12.5 volts. if it does then you might want to look into putting a second batt in. i'm running a zx750.1 and at idle with only the system going i drop down to 12 to 12.5 volts and all i have down is the big three with a 90 amp alt and stock batt. but if the ac is on or anything then it drops below 12 volts. so with that amp you might want a second batt in the back.

To my surprise, there was a 100 amp fuse in the box with the amp. Everything is now installed and sounds great! Huge improvement with the new amp! Couldn't be any happier with it!

Although, the morons who did the first install didn't use enough power wire so with the bigger amp, the wire will NOT reach. To say the least, its so short, we had to do some riggin after the first intsall to keep the wire and fuse off hot parts of my engine. For now, the amp is sitting on the floor of the trunk and just may get mounted there. Tomorrow I'm heading up to the local car audio shop and seeing what can be done about the short wire (they can do THAT part! lol)

Thanks!

Forgot to mention, yes, everything else is stock on my electrical system. I asked the guy at our local shop about that after reading here, he said he'd check my voltage for me when I stopped in.

also don't let them talk you into getting a cap! if your voltages does drop below 12 just get another batt in the truck a cap is just a waist of your money

step 1: unhook battery

that is all
