Pioneer premier subs givin weird smell, help?

My buddy just installed two pioneer premier subs (1000 rms each) dvc 4 ohms in a ported box. I'm using hifonics bxi2008d to push them with 0 gauge wire and brand new rca cables. I'm really confused right now. I had 2 rockford p3's with p8002 amp pushin 800 watts roughly, and the hifonics amp is supposed to push 2000 watts rms but it doesnt feel like it at all! My speedometer lights get dim when i turn it loud but popped the trunk open and noticed a smell coming out the subs. I'm guessing maybe my friend messed up the wiring in the subs? He supposedly wired em in parellel.

By the way, the bxi2008d is supposed to be 1 channel but it has 2 terminals for speaker wires. I'm assuming it automatically wires them down to 1 ohm even though you connect them individually, correct? I know these subs are cheap but I was expecting them to be a lot bette than p3's especially since my buddy has em too and his sound good but he has rockford amp which has less power than mine.

Please give me some advice to trouble shoot this. Thanks

no it wont
dvc will be a single connect if wired right
not necessarily.

get a dmm and check your wiring ohm load at the amplifier (touch both positives of the subs to the pos on the DMM and both negatives to the neg on the DMM, and test the ohm load). the amplifier has two positives and two negatives, but they are each connected internally.

my guess is your overpowering the subs in an attempt to get more output, and in turn burning their voicecoils up. I'm also going to guess you have a lack of output due to a crappy box

Yeah man, what kind of box do you have them in? Put them in a properly sized and tuned ported box, and they will sing. 2000w is a lot of power, especially for those subs. I remember in the great 12" challenge, they commented on how the Pioneer Premier subs were vastly overrated, and that 1000w of true power would damage them. The funny smell you're experiencing could be one of two things: excess glue on the voice coils burning off (this is completely normal) or, you could be frying the coils (this is not normal). Because of what I stated earlier, I'd be willing to bet it's the latter. Put the subs in a good box and watch your gains and you ought to see a significant jump in performance and longevity.

not necessarily.

You probably are right about the box, but I had p3s in the same box before and they sounded pretty good and these subs are pretty much the same size, a little bigger. I have a sealed box I'll try them in that box tomorrow. Most people say ported box is better for these subs, although some say sealed is better too so I guess I'll have to try both. Btw how am I over powering the subs? Each of them is supposed to take 1000 rms and 3000 peak, and the amp is 2000 rms @ 1 ohm. A lot of people say hifonics amps are over rated as well.

I have another question about the wiring. Should each 4ohm sub be wired according to this diagram so its wired down to 2 ohms:

http://www.the12volt.com/caraudio/woofer_configurations.asp?Q=1&I=42

Or, should I wire both subs according to the diagram for 2 dvc 4ohm subs in which both subs are connected to each other with a wire, but I i do that how will I use the two speaker terminals that are on my amp since there will be only one wire in this setup?

the brutus amps have 2 speaker terminal but they work as one. I talked to hifonics and they said they were put there so you could run 4 8 gauge wires to the sub instead of 2 for more power to the sub.

yes wire it like they show for 2 dvc 4 ohm subs.you can do it like they show or you can wire the two + together from one sub than run 1 wire to one of the + on the amp, than same thing for -. then do the same for the next sub. so you end up with 2 + and 2 - wires going o the amp.

Thanks for all the help. I'v concluded everything is fine its just the backpanel of my maxima that is messing up everything. It rattles so much. I dont even have gain turned half way, if I do more than half it rattles insanely. My buddy told me to take off the backpanel and put regular insulation that will fix it, but I think dynamatting the whole trunk might be better. What do you guys think?
