Sundown SA - Same league as Fi / Incriminator / AA?

Local dealer quoted me $175 for the american bass XFL which is a better buy (same sound quality, 3 inch coil, bigger motor).
The 1200RMS american bass XR (same motor as the XFL, upgraded soft parts) which is basically a SQ version of XFL is still like 25-30 bucks cheaper than the Sundown SA (I was quoted 190 for it, if I risked it and went unauthorized dealer I could get it as low as $165)

SA is a good sub but I don't really like the price (Currently the SSA GCON is selling about 30 bucks higher than the sundown SA and the GCON is fully assembled in the US, the motor is machined in house, and it uses an american made voice coil).

Don't get me wrong, Sundown is good but your paying a decent amount for the name
How do you figure the SQ is the same between xfls and SAs?

I will agree if it's possible within your budget it's nice to buy American or as close to it as you can.

american bass needs to change there name to Chinese stuff than i'm gonna sell to you as an american with an american name..while some Chinese build houses are decent most of them are huge companies with underpaid employees that don't give a **** about building speakers and need there job.

to say american bass is junk is not accurate. to say its a great sounding woofer is not accurate. one thing it is is a decent woofer for a low price..
Sundown SA uses the same build house as american bass (the owner even posted the build house during his Chinese tour last year).
"to say its a great sounding woofer is not accurate. one thing it is is a decent woofer for a low price.." This quote confuses me. The only SQ I mentioned was the XR which was intentional designed to be a good sounding woofer (Its the owners Bob's favorite subwoofer for that exact reason)

The SA and the XFL are good output with average sound quality (I don't see what the point of your post is ? I compared two similar subwoofers both in terms of sound and price and now your going on some rant about Chinese build houses ?)

I will say this. Sundown has the only Chinese woofers I would ever touch at this point in my life. Jacob maintains an active front on the forums and seems to share quite a bit of his testing and design processes and I value that. Which discussing the SA I feel as if its a well designed driver and Jacob has strived to optimize it for good all around duty. It is a solid woofer and depend on your wants and needs it can fit the bill quite nicely. Do I wish they were made anywhere but China? Yeah, but I would bet most of his subs would become much less appealing at those prices.

Sharing the same buildhouse means they have the same sound quality or other performance?!?!

Demoed both on multiple occasions. Average SQ with good output (both like tuning around 30 to 32hz).
I agree about american (GCON is a much better value at 250 dollars then the sundown SA)

[ SoundSplinter Subwoofers - RL-p 15" Subwoofer Information ]the dual 2ohm woofer would work very good in that box if you wanted excellent lowend
Yeah, most subs oemed by American TC would work well. A TC9 platform would work well in the given lineup. I just don't know where OP would find new nonchinese subs(seems the new audiopulse/tc sounds made in china have pretty consistent QC issues)

Not the point I was making.
Topic creator asked what's a better value for the cash then the SA and I told him the GCON or the american bass XFL/XR

Some random dude then went on some rant about chinese build houses because I mentioned the XFL/XR are better for the price then the sundowns (I don't know why he did this since they use the same build house as the SA's)

Do you think it's built well enough to be slammed every day and hold up like an Fi or Incrimintor? I'm talking a single sub setup like yours that's designed to shake things apart, considering it's one sub.

I know it gets loud, a lot of these woofers can hit insane numbers on one note wonder builds, but just as a daily ground pounder does hold the same water?

Just curious on opinions on it.

The original point was not what is a better value for the price, but if the SA 12 would be similar performance or hold up to the beating that an Fi or IA can. Basically, is it really that good, a cut above other chinese budget woofers.

Basically what the title says. Is the Sundown SA 12 really in the same league as say the Fi SSD or Incriminator Lethal Injection series? I mean, I know is a 2.5"coil vs 3" coils, but I keep seeing people that recommend the SA over some of these others and my mind is a little blown at that.
Here's my question to you... How long has sundown been in the game? Fi's/ ascendant audio/ owner scott has been in for decades... Why pay over 200$ for a sundown sa Chinese sub when you can get an fi audio ssd which is an amazing sounding woofer for the same price... Sundown nutt huggers are always saying you pay more for the r+d well Scott's been at it a lot longer and knows his ****... Why did Steve Meade go to scott for a brutal woofer build and not sundown... There's no sense in paying over 200 for a sa when you can get a ssd for the same price and it it was $ get the fi day sub rated at 600 rms as well for 129... American quality at = or less than a Chinese... Give me a break man... If your not in a hurry to purchase I'll be posting a video of my 10" ssd doing work in a CSCStang custom t-line in a week when I get home and get it installed

No I fully agree. I've always known those brands to be a step up in quality and a big step in performance. And still are a step up. What surprised me was how much that gap seems to be narrowing. At least in the performance department. To be honest, Sundown subs have a pretty good track record and seem pretty **** high quality. I mean, look at the average entry level sub today vs **** even 5 years ago. Now their all at nearly 40mm peak to peak excursion ******* linear. According to manufacturer at least. Back the in the day you were dropping some coin for that.

As far as why would I buy it? To be honest, I'm not all that picky on where my sub ( or other equipment) was made as long as the quality is there. If its a **** sub I don't care where it was made, I'm not buying. That being said, I do prefer american if I can afford and it does what I need it to.

I just think there shits way over priced look at the sundown x series.. The 18 is over 5 hundo for a 1250 watt woofer... Really?!?! I think I'll just buy a 3000 watt fi audio sp4 low frequency beast for less than 500 all day every dau

To me, that's a whole different discussion. Subs like that are on a completely different level and starts to become all about volume of displacement at any given frequency. There are lots of different ways to achieve that and the end goal is as long as it does it reliably then how it does is a mute point. In my opinion at least.

here we go again with paying for the name BS. Isn't any diff with any other brand you choose.

People need to get over the price hike. Happens all the time. Truth is, just need to shop around or wait for the sundown yardsale to open up.
