Such thing as too much???

I wanted to get some opinions on something I have been hearing alot lately.

The sentence

"I NEED TO SELL THIS AMP/SYSTEM ETC..BECAUSE IT IS TOO POWERFULL FOR ME"???

Is there such a thing as too much power. It seems alot of folks are selling thier HIGH POWERED stuff for lower wattage components and complaining More is not better. Wether it is an Amplifier or speakers. Do any of you believe that you can overkill a system or atleast reduce the quality by trying too hard??

I do not mean in "Overpowering" your system...I mean that you feel the desire to IMPROVE your system by decreasing it's output rather than increasing power??

I guess I can see it but I always thought if you had the speakers to handle it then go for more..but some "Experts" seem to be downsizing for quality rather than increasing.

Henry Sudit of Anahiem hills Stereo an award winner and IASCA judge once advised me to use 2 10's instead of 2 12's in my ext cab truck for example. He insists that it will be better overall for my system and it's imaging...He would know!

MY OPINION....

There is no such thing as too much power. PERIOD. It never hinders the sound quality of an install. Its all about how you configure your system and have all your gear setup and installed. Its all about balance. Why do movie theaters have 10,000W plus running to 10-15+ speakers. Why dont they just use 2 little 3" 'full-range' speakers and pump 100W to them? If the room is quiet enough, then it wouldnt matter....However you have to take into consideration all aspects of the application. Its all a matter of installation, settings, acoustics, balance, imaging, etc. etc. There is really no excuse, or any contest that can determine that there is not an advantage for having extra power on reserve or running high-powered equipment.

I also have to say that whatever the judge suggested to you is his personal opinion, not necessarily what is best for your personal desire/goals for the system. I really think that his suggestion was bold and quite illogical. You could just as easily turn down your gains/sub volume. It would have the same effect. The whole idea of changing your entire bass setup is really one of the stupidest things I have ever heard. Im sorry for ranting but man, why (hypothetically) would you even waste the money based on what one person said. Dont trust all the advice you are given. If you are competing to satisfy someone else's desires then you are just cheating yourself. Maybe I'm selfish but I think what I like in a system is more important than what someone else likes in a system. Especially if that system is for you. (Remember when Moms bought those jeans you hated, its the same principle) I personally wouldnt compete, I know my system sounds good, I dont need other people to criticize because I LIKE MY POWER!!!!

here is the real reason 90% of those people sell their amps....

....they are too lazy to finish the rest of the install. They buy huge sub/amp combos and put all their money into that only, then it completely overshadows the rest of the system and rattles like hell. In their case it actually improves SQ by using less power because now they actually have music instead of buzzing and booming.

I agree with EFFENDI, there is no such thing as too much power.

The thing is, I like to over power my stuff just barely to make sure its working to the full extent. So I dont see the point in downsizing in power because it just doesnt make since to me. Unless someone is goin deaf, then i can understand it. But until then I say just power it to full extent and be happy.

I wouldnt recomend to anyone to downsize their power.

If anything get somethin with more power than whatever it is ur pushing can handle and back down the output levels.

Its that simple.

There is such a thing as too much power. Some people's goals for their stereo's change over time, and they no longer feel the need to drive down the road listening to their music at 150db. Like myself, I used to be a bass junkie...but I no longer desire to have a huge, high-powered sub setup. So I "downsized" from 1500w RMS and four 12s to a (soon to be installed) single sub setup with less than 500w. So, you could say that the 1500w amp and four 12s were "two powerful for me" because I no longer need or desired that much bass.

And if you want to hear loud and "too powerful", come listen to the horns I just installed in my car with less than 20w on them. They'll get so loud that you can't even handle it //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/satan.gif.9c6a335ed7aeeed3ee273e573f1fcaac.gif
