Such thing as too much Bass for Young Children?

IMO if you need to ask a question like this you aren't fit to raise a kid. because there is obviously something in you thats telling you there might be a chance that it ok, and your looking for justification. sorry, my .02

bottom line, be an adult and be responsible.I have a pair of leightning headphones that my son insists on keeping in his hands while we cruise around....he always wears them if we 'school someone' bumping.

No kids are allowed NEAR the vehicle on a burp.
Yup...

djman is very strict about this. No kiddies shall get their ears hurt in the Xterra.

Just wondering if anyone knows if or how much bass is bad for children? Is there a wattage I guess? Or do you just know when the kids tell you their body hurts. I guess I'm just figuring it wouldn't be good for them, but was wondering if anyone knew any facts or anywhere to find out?

When I have my system up and running it'll be around 1000-1200W RMS and my kids like to listen to the music loud.

I can just imagine some bass just knocking around their internals or something, considering they'll be sitting about 3ft in front of the woofer in an SUV.

Maybe I'm just paranoid.

Thanks

BTW...Young as in 4 to 11
I wouldn't turn the shit to loud

i'd worry about shaken baby syndrome more if thats what your talking about

Keep it down for the kiddies.

My best friend's 7 year old bro BEGGED me to turn mine up as loud as it could get one morning while we were taking him to school.. I just turned it up halfway and it made him happy. I can't imagine a young kid listening to a 140+dB daily system..No need for it at all

I see your point, but you're way off. I personally don't like you're comment, but I understand you don't know me, but seems you are judging me.

I'm asking because I don't know. You dumbass' (the one's that think this) think I'm going to blast my kids out of car. Hell with the generic system we have in car now I don't even turn volume up past 10. And that's really not that loud. Especially considering my kids don't have speakers in the back seats either.

And we don't have air in car so windows are always down.

I'm asking because I DON'T WANT TO HARM MY CHILDREN.

I'm sure as hell not looking for justification to do this.

I'm in my Mid 30's and raised some great boys for the past 11 almost 12 years. And never once have I harmed them intentionally or accidentally.

Sorry, but being a loving father, Loving my boys as much as I do and as hard as I try to do the best parenting job I can, that comment peeved me a bit.

well that comment was mostly influenced by the other posts in this thread, and was taken out on you. didnt mean to piss ya off.

however, i dont understand how someone in there 30's would ask a question like this. this IMO is more of something that i would believe to be common sense. do you really need to even ask how loud you can go? or should you just keep it at a low volume? to me its pretty obvious.

and no offense but when you posed this up i assumed you were some 19 yr old who got a girl pregnant and has a kid, and felt that he was too cool to keep it down even with kids in the car. so yes, i did judge you. and like i said, sorry didnt mean to piss you off.

I remember when I was at the local shop with my uncle, and saw some trash come in. They looked like they were hovering around the poverty level, combined, and yet were buying a system, and had a small child with them.

To the OP, you have good intentions, but rewording it may have helped you avoid some slander.

FAQ

http://www.dangerousdecibels.org/faq.cfm

If you are concerned, buy an spl meter and make sure the bass is no more than 60-70 Db at peak.

"Sounds louder than 80 decibels are considered potentially dangerous. Both the amount of noise and the length of time of exposure determine the amount of damage. Hair cells of the inner ear and the hearing nerve can be damaged by an intense brief impulse, like an explosion, or by continuous and/or repeated exposure to noise."

Just keep in mind that their ears are far more sensitive than yours and you'll do the right thing.

The "poor excuse for a father" that yelled shut the hell up needs a ***** slap to wake his ignorant *** up. That kind of shit pisses me off. It's ok for you to be a fool, but don't make your kids pay for your ignorance. Bet his wife/sister wouldn't be happy either...

Do you have any evidence to support your claim that kids ears are "more sensitive"?

I actually found information CONTRARY to what most people are saying:

"There is no evidence that a child will be more or less vulnerable to noise exposure than an adult. The fact is that BOTH are going to get damage from loud sounds."

See for yourself.

http://www.dangerousdecibels.org/faq.cfm#14

The reason why a child's ears might "hurt" from loud music being played is not because they have more SENSITIVE ears than an adult, but that the adult's hearing has probably already been damaged from a lifetime of loud sounds.

you just proved your damaging the kids hearing in a range that we have already lost?

and the point still remains, loud music/bass is bad for young kids cuz they will end up like us and worse quicker/sooner

Yeah I guess I should have worded it different.

I'm not going to be blasting my music with my kids in the car.

I barely blast it when it's just me and my buddies.

They are always telling me to turn it up and I'm getting old.

And George I'm not sure how you couldn't understand someone in their 30's would be asking this. I myself know I do not know everything. I know alot of crap most people don't though. I am very new to the car audio world and have NEVER been in a car with a system (amp and sub) in it before.

Most of my life is dedicated to my family so I don't get out much.

I am finally able to afford something for my vehicle and since my stereo got stolen a year ago I figured I'd go all out (well to me it is) and buy new speakers and sub and amp. So I'm here trying to find out new information about this stuff.

Just because someone wants information about something doesn't mean they are going to do it. I like to learn and this is something I know nothing about.

And yeah twisztdauthorit, I've noticed all the nice people here too. lol

Thank you for the help and advice all. Much appreciated
