Subwoofer Recommendation Requirements

D@mn that's such a sad attempt, I dont even lmfaoo.. You mofos didn't even have a booth this year. Or nothing that actually stood out and caught anyone's eye.

This thread is dead, but hopefully somebody can still help me

Number of subs preferred: 2

Size preferred (if configuration allows): 2x15"

Budget: < $ 400

Power to be used (which amp(s), include which resistance): Sub is ~1000w @ 1ohm

Space available (take measurements, do not guess):
43L x 22h x 16d = 15,136 = Cubic Inches
15,136 / 1728 = 8.759 Cubic Feet

Goals: I want to build the correct enclosure, because I believe that the proper enclosure is number 1 Priority.

Listening habits: mostly hiphop / rnb.

Preferred brands/subs/whatever:
( I want to buy 2 subs for less than $400. With RMS of ~500w each.

It's been a long time, but last night, I heard an RE Audio 12" XXX sub. Those are still the loudest subs I have heard. Too bad they don't have the money to advertise like the rest of them. The excursion on those things are ridiculous, and they still sound good.

I would recommend two 12" subs in a ported box. It will be a little bigger than a box for 3, but it will hit a whole lot harder. Basically, for $500, you can get a much better amp with subs.

Let's try this as I don't really have a proper person to ask. Application is 1980 Firbird with very limited trunk space after the T-tops are stowed. Mids and highs are pretty good with aftermarket stuff though I plan to add an smaller amp to drive those soon instead of the Kenwood head unit. My main problem is box volume for what I hope to do. I'm hoping that your advice will help me get serious lows since I'm not trying to win a competition. I just sold my car with some big car audio stuff. I miss the bass so much I gotta have something...... and my truck's under seat box is pretty pathetic.

Power to be used (which amp(s), include which resistance): Vintage 350W 2ohm since it drives down to 4Hz (no kidding) and yes, the motor is only "moving" at that point. I could use my 1500W 1ohm amp too but it's limited to playing about 28Hz regardless of what the spec says.

Space available (take measurements, do not guess): 1.5cuft (37 x 15 x 8") tapered at wheel wells minus MDF thickness. If the motor depth doesn't fit I can offset it to extend into the seat frame a bit. I'm pretty creative.

Goals: Play stupid lows

Listening habits: old school bass music, some of the newer digital bass music.

Preferred brands/subs/whatever: I like Skar pretty well so far

The Dayton Audio RSS390HO-4 15 plays very low, sounds great musically, and can live in a small box while still having good output. Only downside is it's a single 4 ohm sub that'll need about 800-1200 watts. But with your space limitations it's probably the best option for getting a big sub in there.

That is a very interesting idea. Thank you spokey9. It looks like the freq response is extremely flat which is undoubtedly where the "Musical" comes from. I need to digest this and do some research. The spec says 6cuft box. Maybe I'll call Dayton. That's going to take a big amp at 4ohm. I already found a guy run it at 1000W supposedly but it was a big box. At 1.5cube and 1000W I think I'd need to dissipate heat somehow. YEA baby!

The svc ho subs do really well in a small box. I had the 10" in a box barely big enough for it to fit and it still played lower than I wanted it to

I was using it as a front sub in Saturn. Ideally I wanted to choke it out with too small of a box since I only wanted to play in the 45-150hz ballpark. To cover the gap between my 15's and mids (like a beefy midbass). Even after putting blocks in the corners it'd still play into the 30's with gusto.

That is ridiculous, I love it.

So far the SVC seems to be a great fit..... but people keep interrupting me at work so the research will have to wait.
