Hi guys! I recently purchased an Alpine SWR-1223D Subwoofer and an Alpine MRX-M50 Monoblock amplifier. The Sub-woofer is dual coil at 2 ohms and the amp
is rated for 300W at 4 ohms, 500W at 2 ohms and 300W at 1 ohm.
I realize I should have bought the dual coil 4 ohm sub-woofer to create a 2 ohm load but that time has passed, so I'm asking this assuming I'm stuck with the sub-woofer I have and that I cannot replace it.
My questions are:
1) What is the ideal setup for this sub and amp? According to the spec sheet, I get the same power output at 4 ohms and 1 ohms, so is there any compelling reason to make my amp produce more heat and higher distortion for no difference in output?
2) Why would I get a LOWER power output at 1 ohm? I thought there was less resistance in the line so there would be an increase in wattage (right?).
3) Would the amp be putting out 300W/500W PER coil, or 150W/250W per coil?
Thank you!
