Subs with thin tall surround and high xmax

If you see the sub moving almost 3 inches back and forth by its own motor power without audible distortion you call this just throw?
x-mech.

maximum mechanical excursion, before something falls apart...

there are some SQ woofers, which have pretty much the same x-max, as x-mech, because, whats the point in a woofer that can do 100mm peak to peak excursion, if only 10mm of that is linear?

Absolutely.Why not playing normal?

Since it doesn't have audible distortion means it is in its own Xsus and Xmag limits.

By the term Xmech you must mean Xsus(DUMAX speaking).I know what you mean.

But here you can see the sub moving to limits of Xsus by its own power.I don't push it with external forces.

Maybe it's exceeding a bit the normal Linear Xmag but not much, and let me tell you that this sub could move more but i turned it down a bit(about 1db)because was starting making wierd noises coming from suspension.

I believe it's Xmag is very close to it's Xsus and maybe it is a bit higher.

Depending on how you measure xmax, yes.
I use Dumax theory.

Xmag = Excursion limit due to the magnetic limitations of the driver's motor. Xmag is defined as the displacement at which the BL product has fallen to 70% of its value at the cone's rest position.

Xsus = Excursion limit due to the driver's suspension. Xsus is defined as the point at which the compliance of the suspension has decreased to 25% of the value at the cone's rest position.

What theory makes you call this just throw?

I don't try to be a smarta$$,just asking your opinion...

my TC's can move 50mm each way //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif extra High roll surround, only two of my sub ever made... linear VC so all that 50mm is linear //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Older xxx baskets limited it at 34mm of throw, 32 linear...

The voice coil length of dual 2ohms is 42 mm and the gap height 32mm.This is not underhung.I have done the recone myself and have the old coil.
The 14mm xmax you are refering to is based probably in a dumax test in a 9515 B series and is 12.9mm exactly.I don't know about the B series voice coil and gap height.

You apparently aren't familiar with the definition of xmax.

So this is wrong?

Xmag = Excursion limit due to the magnetic limitations of the driver's motor. Xmag is defined as the displacement at which the BL product has fallen to 70% of its value at the cone's rest position.

Xsus = Excursion limit due to the driver's suspension. Xsus is defined as the point at which the compliance of the suspension has decreased to 25% of the value at the cone's rest position.

If you are familiar don't keep it a secret. Why don't you tell us?
