NooB!
Just helped a friend install his new subs and amps and all that today. His system consists of

2 RE SE 12's. D4

Hifonics Brutus 1606

1/0 to back + ground

Yesterday I blew a fuse in my rockford because of a loose connection, so before all this we dropped his amp in my car to push my mag in my new box as I hadn't heard it yet. And. That sounded amazing! But anyway - amp works perfectly.

We then wired his subs in parallel. Tuned his amp to ~35 volts. Dropped the box in. And wired it all up. When playing hypnotize or any song for that matter, the subs move...but barely and you can't even really hear the bass. You can see them moving, but nothing like they should be. You couldn't even hear them in the car. He is coming from 2 12 sony xplodes...so there should be a huge difference.

The amp was putting out enough volts because I set with DMM - and even when I turned it up to 3/4 the subs weren't loud. The amp also worked in my car, so it isn't blown or anything.

We also took out one of the subs and checked the wiring to make sure it was in parallel...and it was!

I'm just at a loss guys. I went through and checked everything I could think of with no luck and I told him to get all this stuff and we can't get it to work!

Thanks guys

He means they aren't wired correctly but if you say they are, than that isn't the problem. I don't know what to tell you. Some amps act differently in different environments even when logic says they shouldn't. I have had the same problem with a few very popular amps. I couldn't begin to tell you why. Good luck though.

Ahh gotcha. We will rewire it all tonight or tomorrow just to be sure we didn't mess anything up. But I'm pretty sure it is all right. The only thing I could think of it being is the wiring, and when I checked it looked perfectly fine.

I'm thinking maybe we'll wire just one sub in - down to 2 ohms and set the gains to 600 watts and see if it works right. I work 4-12 though tonight so I can't help him too much until tomorrow.

Are these in a common chamber? Be careful just wiring one if they are, but I do think this will be a good test to determine what is going on. If the sub is nice off the 600watts then I think you have determined that it is a wiring problem between your 2 subs.

Good idea. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif Check the wiring. If you have any issues, use a volt meter to make sure you have the right impedance and continuity and you might want to also use a 9v battery to make the cone move. If it doesn't move then something is wired wrong.

It is a prefab sealed box, there is a wall in between both sides. Each sub has a cube, exactly what it wants. So yeah, maybe I'll give him a call now as I just found out I work at 5.

Alright I'll try that if all else fails! And just to let you know, I'm lovin the mag ported. It sounded amazing. Can't wait till I get those fuses so I can hear it again for good. Too bad 150 amp ANL fuses are 20 bucks at the shop and that's way to much compared to 8 shipped on ebay!

Good to hear. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif I've seen your avatar and sig but didn't know that you got it installed yet. The Mag 15's are ridiculous subs in a car...wwaayyy too much bass for me.

On the fuses - I hope you bought more than one just in case something like that happens again. I buy them in lots of 4 just in case and it has helped a BUNCH when one of them blows.

this happen to my car before, i had a system and it worked perfectly fine before, but when i bought a better amp and sub, the the amp and sub didnt work as well as my first sub and amp. it barely played any bass i can hear. i asked my friend what was wrong and he told me the local audio place wired my system wrong. they had my wires wired to the wrong capacitor in my car and they had to rewire it to a the right capacitor. After they did that, my new sub and amp worked perfectly fine in my car. maybe that is your problem. hope this helps...

First off - thanks for all suggestions guys. I went over there for an hour and just got right down to it. We took it all out. Made one sub work at 2 ohms - then the other. Then made them move free air, and then got them in the box and just made sure all wiring was correct. And now it is working perfectly. To bad it is in a Honda Del Sol and he loses half the bass because there is no way for it to get into the car. I still have absolutely no idea as to what it was - but it works now. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Ha yeah I am really going to try and convince one of my friend's to get the new mag...because I really want to hear it!

And yes. I learned to buy more than 1 the hard way too, as I kept blowing them with my first system. It was 3 for 8 bucks shipped, not too bad!

Yup. Must have been a wiring issue for him too - but we got it figured out!
